What do you think about Sion support and what masteries/runes would you run on him?

I saw it was banned in one of the EULCS games yesterday (Splyce vs UOL), hinting that the support player in question has been practising it a lot in scrims. I'm not exactly sure what to think of it because I've never played it or seen it played before, but I figure it's fine post-6 if you can set up roams/ganks/skirmishes etc. However, it has a very poor laning phase because his laning pattern is very one-dimensional.

For runes/masteries, standard 0/12/18 with full tank runes (ar marks, hp seals, mr glyphs, ar quints)

She wasn't really **** before the buffs and if she was, the buffs wouldn't have made a massive impact. She's probablyslightly better (from what I see, people max E>W>Q now) than before but still not great; her utility still diminishes greatly after early/mid game. I think her Q changes may have also made her damage output lower in lane, but that is (at least partially) compensated by better utility.

Well they certainly didn't increase her damage, did they? :P

Sucks that the AS boost is tied to W though, means that while Q max got nerfed, E max is still the same, and if you want to give your ADC the AS boost you can't Whimsy an enemy. Would be so good if the AS were tied to E instead, I'm sure that even with its current numbers it probably wouldn't be overly strong.

I like laning with Lulu but I honestly think the change will have done almost nothing for her viability as support. It's weird to have the AS tied to a spell that's mainly used for chasing or running, not for DPS. It's certainly not a bad change but I really wish the AS buff were on her E rather than W, it's just such an awkward place to put it. If you place it on the ADC to increase their DPS you're probably wasting the movement speed at least a little bit, it costs too much mana to be using it willy nilly along with your E, and in lane skirmishes you probably mostly want to use it on an enemy rather than your ADC.

It's slightly good news for the people already playing Lulu support (unless you were a Q max fan), but it doesn't really give you any more incentive to play Lulu support.

Mind you I haven't played with her yet so I'm just theorising here.

I've played against Sion support a few times. It basically revolves around giving your ADC a lot of time to auto the opposing laners without them being able to retaliate since they will be slowed and trying to run away from your Q which knocks them up if they take the full channel. He can also harass pretty well through the minion wave Roar of the Slayer. However if you do it incorrectly he'll push the lane leaving your open for ganks. He is somewhat similar to Malphite support with more ability to harass (better lvl 2-5) and less reliable kill potential at level 6 unless say you combine his ult with an Ashe arrow, Jinx trap, Jhin Deadly Flourish. And if his lane does get ahead he can prove nigh unstoppable (your ADC just won't have the items to kill him fast enough).

I think the attack speed buff ties in with Lulu's champion design itself nicely from a balance standpoint in that it forces you to make a tradeoff (and lulu's kit is all about those tradeoffs) between buffing your ADC or cc'ing your enemies. However, I agree that it doesn't do much to make Lulu more viable as a support.

I've personally always been an advocate of changing Lulu's numbers in a way that AP lulu remains the same but support lulu gets much bigger heals, shields etc. Lower AP ratio's on utility spells like Whimsy (as they already did) and increase the base values. In that way the recent buffs have been good, but I think she will need a little bit more of that.

The knockup is so easily avoided in a ranged lane (botlane) that I don't think it's particularly impactful. After 6 it can work because you can chain your R into the knockup but before that you're pretty much a sitting duck for the poke supports.

I think his passive also plays a significant role. You can't ignore him but you can't really kill him either, unless you're very ahead or you don't go all-in (which you shouldn't be able to afford).

You could indeed argue that it prevents aggression or enables you to turn around engages, but most supports right now don't care about all-ins and would rather poke you down from afar.

Wouldnt the things that make Sion strong in lane arguably make him annoying as a support?
