Hey guys, I know it's been a while since I've popped up but I just wanted to create a bit of discussion outside of my friends who play LoL to see if I'm alone in this or if this is indeed a widespread issue. I'd like to preface this with I've been playing since ~Braum Release/Sona Rework of 2014 so I'm not a true veteran, but I've done my time.
A friend of mine is transitioning into HoTS, mostly because he seems to be having a lot of fun with it, and while I disagree with his comparisons to LoL (snowballing still exists to the capacity it does in LoL, the consequences of dying, etc.) but one his main issues with the game is that it just isn't fun anymore and doesn't promote having fun as much as it does being aggressively competitive. He says that there are only a few select champions you can play without getting s***-stomped. I sort of agree with this. Now I don't play every game with the intent to win, but I do play a majority of the games I play to have fun with friends, so we may do some off-meta stuff such as Olaf and Veigar supports. However, we find that even in URF mode, a mode specifically made to have fun and do stupid garbage it feels borderline competetive, even when randomized! While my friends and I are strategising thinking "how high exactly are corki's AP scalings" or "lucian is probably pretty cool" the enemy team is aggressively reroling to get the OP champs, i.e. Eve, Sona, Shaco, Cho, Ezreal, Hecarim, etc. Even the mode that was created to create fun for everyone who wanted to play was becoming worse, and would be easily fixed with an increased ban list. (I know there are no bans in random URF, but adding some banned characters so maybe people don't play the same thing every time and branch out to see what each champion has to offer) But throughout this entire season, which has almost been universally called the worst yet, I feel as if I'm slowly losing the game I used to adore back in Season 4, where Jax was king and Karthus was a playable champion. While I know there have been mounds upon mounds of people claiming League would die this year either by Overwatch or the company creating it has just distanced it so much from the original product that it's almost impossible to see its infancy I'm here to argue something else; is the game even fun anymore? I have loads of fun when I play with friends where we play Blitzcrank almost every game and do stupid hilarious stuff but it's come to my attention that Riot is constantly disinsentivize casual play and playing for fun to focus exclusively on competitive LoL, which apparently they've been royally massacring this season as well. All of this rushed toward me as I saw the newest world's video (which I think is gorgeous personally, the hand's animation is sublime) and saw the glaring dislike bar, and remembered that people are pissed at this game, but I was just curious to see how pissed.
Thanks for reading all this/skipping to the bottom. Tell me whatcha think. :)
Edit: Messed up the poll, instinctively pressed enter to get to the next box and it just posted it, sorry. :(
