Starting with Amplifying Tome, in my opinion, is not a good idea. Having an early Doran's Ring is very good because you get additional Health, 15 AP ( and the difference between that amount of AP and AP from Amplifying Tome is only 5 ) and more mana regen, what you need since Sona is mana hungry champion. I understand that you are aiming on fast Mejai's Soulstealer but I don't think that is an item that Sona really needs. Without any survivability until later game you are an easy target for most of the champions, which will cause you to lose your stacks ( if you will get them ). On the other hand, that item is way too much team-depending and it won't work every game.
Building Archangel's Staff as your final item is also a bad idea. When you buy Tear of the Goddess in early game, I am pretty sure you will stack +1000 mana before you make the rest of the items ( in this case Rod of Ages Guardian Angel and Rabadon's Deathcap. Buying Archangel's Staff when you reach 750 mana is the best time.
One huge thing: 95% of people WILL NOT accept having AP CARRY Sona in team (RANKED) ( unless you are planning to take Clairvoyance instead of Exhaust ).
Anyway, the guide seems pretty good :).
Best regards,
Your Nemo.
Honestly i don't trust mejai's because if you are on a screwy team u lose a lot of money and slow down ur build. But otherwise this is exactly the way i used t play sona before the nerfs. I often got scores like 15/3/12 because they udnerestimated me :) I once tried to make a sona guide like this one and everyone flamed and downvoted me just because i added ap. Idk why but eh. Gj i will +1 this for sure.
In my experience some of my teamates hate it when I build AP because most of the times I overshadowed them during team fights and I get most of the kills, maybe that's one of the reasons I think. Sona's damage when built with AP can't really be ignored specially when her burst is used right and is followed well. I usually go for AP support but because of the nerf in her heal, I guess its now time for Sona to take arms and fight.
What a stupid idea to play the great support like this in AP way? o_O
Well then build her anyway you like as I said in the guide Sona being a support is already a given, the only thing you need is to use her effectively. I'm not against a full support build but I guess by playing her as a full support just makes your ally's suffering much longer (her heal has been tweaked and is now awfully low.) with this she needs lots of AP to be viable as a support. why not play offensively? that way you don't need to sustain much more damage.
But I really like that kind of thinking. Deceptively most people think Sona couldn't handle herself in battle which is an advantage I would take to take my opponents offguard.
