Seen at the IEM, HSGG played a Wingborne Storm Udyr top lane and destroyed that way Yorick, which is known for to be the best early-mid game solo top atm. Now, it seems to be, that Wingborne Storm Udyr is as viable as Wilding Claw Udyr, because he doesn't need to be in near range to deal damage to the enemy. He constantly harasses them with the proc and the waves and meele's can't even reach the minions without beeing destroyed (which is actually very similar to Wilding Claw Udyr). Wingborne Storm Udyr also gets faster tanky and deals aoe dmg in teamfights, instead only single target, which makes him overall more usefull.

There are also more options. You can still max Iron Mantle first for more sustain.

So, what do you think?

Wingborne Storm is good against Yorick, not necessarily great against everyone. I would put more faith into Wilding Claw on the normal solo top. Phoenix allows you to push, which is great against Yorick's summoning. Turtle is also a strong repeatable shield, which is GREAT against Yorick. Pushing the lane opens you up to jungle ganks, but equaling your opponents pushing can warrant great results.

Tl;DR

Phoenix Udyr is a very strong solo top counter to Yorick, but that doesn't mean its great against all champs. They are both situational choices.

Well, Singed nearly does the same, pushing everytime everywhere. And like udyr, he has escapes.

I personally prefer maxing Turtle and then tiger, followed by bear. basically makes you unable to be pushed out of lane
Thanks for the Signature MissMaw!

Guess HSGG picked this one especially to counter Yorick.

Like Bus said, prevent him from having a minion advantage and also be able to take down his ghouls fast leaving him butt naked in direct combat.

It's not really about being able to harrass yorick with the AOE as much as it is the fact that phoenix allows Udyr to push the lane and go take golems like HSGG did once he was itemed. He actually was getting beat, but udyr scales so so so much better than yorick, and once he was itemed he couldnt really die to shyvana gank since between the two of them yorick has the only cc which is a ****ty slow. And HSGG is a very very very good player, remember that too haha.

You can either have HSGG or you can have a good player.

They do not go together.

I'm not saying that he was always bad but he's certainly past his prime.
