Hey, picking up LoL after a while off from the game. I remember back when I played mostly Cho was a really solid pick top lane. Saw a lot of pros like Hotshotgg playing him a ton, and people regarded him as just very strong. However, I remember when I was really cutting my playing time back that Cho was really being phased out from top lane - or at least that he was being regarded as not as strong of a pick. It seemed like the "meta" was shifting to reward more aggressive top laners instead of "farm for late game" champs, and Cho could never really reach that point of "I'm an immovable object that does damage".

So as I'm looking to start back up, I'm looking for the current state of Cho. It's always seemed like it's more important for low elo players like me to know how to operate a specific champ well than it is to fundamentally understand a role (i know, that's important too). But Cho seems like a really strong option that I could play top, mid, OR in the jungle. So I wanted to see what you thought of his current viability. Also, if there are any other champs that you think could be good top, mid and jungle, I'd love to hear those suggestions. Thanks!

Cho mid is hella strong, so is Cho Jungle.

People realized he's a bit better at being a mage than he is at being a bruiser.
Tri lane for life.

Building him as a full mage huh? Like Doran's Rings, RoA, Abyssal's, Deathcap or something like that? Do you build him AP heavy in the jungle as well? I was thinking focus on AS and max vorpal spikes.

I'd say he's top tier jungle and pretty good top lane. I haven't much experience with him mid, but it seems like it should work fine.

The standard Cho build is Wit's End then tank and I'd recommend that especially if you're jungling. Building AP is good too though.

The thing which makes Cho'Gath so good is his versatility. He can fill in many roles for the team and do all pretty well. His jungle routes are also very versitale, because he can basically do anything what he wants. Also, his Feast is probably the best buff securer in the game.

No...
Cho'Gath is good because he fits the meta as a control jungler quite well

His top lane is less as often seen nowadays because 1) ap tanky cho doesnt work in lane quite as well and doesnt provide much presence to a teamfight as compared to others 2) meta doesnt permit autoattackers (a lot less effective)

Mid is a new concept that many ppl have been playing recently. From what I know of AP cho is insanely bursty but quite immobile and has a hard time reacting to dives and the sort

He's an excellent solotop, and can be a good solomid if he isn't counterpicked. What makes Cho'Gath so amazing, is that he can set up ganks so well, and takes a lot of work to kill, even in the early game due to his sustain and high base health. His knock up has a very likable (or dislikable if youre playing against him) casting range. The knock-up + silence can really mess up an opposing champions escape, and can help your jungler get to him, if your jungler doesn't have stellar gap closers. Feast is pretty nice, too ;)
2 free Giant's Belts on an ability is always pretty nice :)

Well, if you first pick cho, the enemy doesn't know where you go and you can't be easily counterpicked. Just because of that he is strong.
