Basic as in bot lane or basic as in the game in general?

What I prefer to do when introducing players to the game is to have them pick a champion they are interested in or think they would be. Learning the game from one champion first accomplishes two things:

1. You get good with said champion.
2. You learn the game with said champion because you spend less time focusing on learning new champions and more time with the game itself.

From there your friend can try new champions after having a basic grasp of the game and its mechanics, which is up to him or her.

Building tanky with said champion allows for more mistakes because you can take more damage.

But to answer your question, what supports to recommend depend on the lane and your opponent. However, if you're talking about Blind Pick, then Taric, Sona, and Soraka are okay picks because they heal and poke.
If I helped you out, +REP me ^_^

The support champions isn't really the problem, the problem you'll be facing are your teammates. Though I highly recommend Lux. Just from my perspective.

Honestly, it depend on what you want him to do.

Want to kill the enemy adc: Blitzcrank, Leona

Want him to keep you at full health: Taric, Soraka

Want to poke the enemy team: Sona, Lulu
Thanks to TinyStar for making me this awesome sig

ok if we are talking beginner support I would go Taric, Soraka, or Nunu & Willump. Taric has a target stun. Nunu has a target slow and good steroid for ADC. Soraka has mad sustain.

Blitzcrank, Leona, and Lulu have more advanced skill shots that they need to hit to be effective. So I would say they are more advanced skill support.

Sona can also be used with beginners but I feel like she is more an 'intermediate' support not a beginner support.

Depends on the carry you're playing. When I play with my support I generally go ADC Graves and he supports me as Leona.

( Graves needs alot of farm early game andis ranged, Leona is melee, tanky, and aggressive, which is great for chasing enemies away from Graves' farm ).
All situational, just try to be the support that covers the carry's flaws.

I was wondering myself who would be a good beginner support champion. I am very new to the game (just started this week) and have been playing mostly ADC Ashe but I would like to learn a support role as everyone seems to want to go the carry route. Thanks for all the suggestions!

I was think one of the easiest supports would be Soraka because you are mainly worrying about healing your ADC. Not saying she is the best. Also, she is one of the cheapest, so she should make an ideal starting support champ.

Other possibles for newbie supports:
-Kayle(450 IP)
-Janna(1350)
-Taric(1350)

i read all your posts, thanks you very much
@creedless: just wanted to play together in the same lane, since i play better than he does, i would take the carry and him the support

i will make him buy nunu, you said it isn't a hard pick, lower cost and since i play caitlyn, it has a good sinergy.

Taric and Sona, the quintessential melee and ranged support. The other supports are a little more difficult to play ( Janna, Lulu, Leona) or are passive supports ( Nunu & Willump, Soraka), which I believe will not help your friend learn how to play the support position.
