Due to a lot of confusion and questions concerning our Twitch stream and its viewer count we would like to make the following official statement:

MOBAFire TV was started as a conduit for streamers to reach a broader audience. Through the viewership of MOBAFire we hoped to enable a wide variety of streamers to get more exposure and at the same time provide a 24 hour channel for not only our fans but all LoL fans.

MOBAFire has worked very hard over the last 4 years building tools that are enjoyed by millions of fans around the world. We wanted to further the experience for our fans by introducing them to entertaining content on Twitch while helping smaller streams reach our audience.

Before launching our stream we spoke directly with Twitch numerous times about how we planned to implement MFTV on MOBAFire. They agreed with our ideas and gave us the green light.

We put the stream on a select few pages of our website in an attempt to show off our new channel and its current streamer lineup. It has been working and fans have really been enjoying the stream and quickly growing the viewership. The small number of pages chosen were the homepage and the champion information pages. These pages were chosen as they would expose the channel to numerous viewers, yet the exposure would be quick and would not saturate their bandwidth during game play if they were looking at a guide.

We are showing our own content to our own fans. We are not botting or otherwise cheating the system, we are showing off our content to our viewers and in a very limited capacity.

The single pixel that has been called into question is used by Quantcast for stats similar to Google Analytics and is used by a large number of popular websites. It does not affect viewers or our MFTV channel in any way. The accusations to the contrary are incorrect. MOBAFire would never cheat or lie to our fans.

We sincerely hope the community will come to see we are not hurting smaller streamers, but are actually promoting them and helping them grow their audiences by putting them in front of one of the biggest LoL communities in the world. We have the support of many Twitch streamers who were excited about this opportunity. All the streamers on MFTV are independent streamers with their own channels they are free to promote on air. If any streamers wish to join MFTV they are all encouraged to apply.

In Summary:

  • We kept open communication with Twitch about our plans and implementation before and after starting MFTV.

  • MOBAFire did not and would never use bots to artificially inflate views.

  • The stream was embedded on a select few pages that people do not remain on for long periods in an attempt to attract attention and show off the channel.

  • We did our best to balance drawing attention to MFTV without annoying our visitors, we did not try to “hide” the stream, to the contrary we wanted as many people to see it as possible.

  • We never intended to deceive anyone, or hurt anyone. We wanted to help streamers reach our large audience and provide some entertaining content to the LoL community.

  • This initiative was a big positive for small streamers, many of whom are excited about the opportunity we have provided.

While we decide how best to move forward, we have taken our Twitch channels offline in hopes that everyone can get back to having fun playing their favorite games. We encourage all feedback and look forward to getting streamers back on the air soon.

well, sad that you felt like turning off the stream was a proper decision, i fear it just brings fuel to the fire. however, i also feel most acusations were unreflected and mimicked, since it was labeled mobafire, possibly paying no attention to content.

I hope you have a more decisive position to take. if the intention was good, i don't see any reason to shut down streaming.

if needed be, make the content/programming of the channel as clear as possible (who are you highlighting/what game it is/inhouses/other productions). maybe a little scroll text (i know it may be the responsibility of the streamer, but programming has no limits, has it?)

Sometimes I wonder whether you actually read and understand what is being said, Pheyniex. :P

Anyways, thanks for the statement Matt. It helps a lot and I hope that the stream will be running again soon without people trying to ruin the fun as I loved watching it. Made studying (procrastinating) for my uni exams just so much more enjoyable. Keep up the good work!

The problem here isn't that you embed the stream on your site, the problem is you have it set to auto-play and auto-mute. You are forcing anyone who visits your main page to contribute to your twitch channel views, and there is nothing you can say that changes that simple fact.

To solve this problem all you have to do is turn off the auto-play. Let the people who visit mobafire make the conscious choice to view the stream, instead of forcing it on them, often without their knowledge.

Considering what a horrible reputation Mobafire already has with the league community, I cannot imagine how you thought manipulating viewer counts through your embedded stream was a good idea.

So that means that the likes of CLG, CRS, and TSM should have to do the same correct? All the teams/orginizations i just mentioned all have their streams on autoplay/mute why should they be exempt from this? Just because you like them better? Or because SivHD didn't call them out?

0 of the 3 sites you mentioned mute/autoplay their streams on their front page.. the only instance TSM has done this was for their invitationals, and the stream took up the entire front page (you can't miss it). mobafire's stream is currently small and not in view when you load the page (you have to scroll down to see it).

Thanks to Xiaowiriamu for the sig!

Are you mental? Neither solomid.net, clgaming.net, lolpro.com, or curse.com automatically open up and play a muted stream upon visiting the main page. Even after you click on the streams section of those websites they don't auto-play anything. As stated above, solomid.net did that specifically for their invitational, and they re-organized the entire front page of the site to accommodate, making it very clear to each and every visitor that the stream was playing.

Did you think I would just accept your blatant lie? Are you so ignorant that you yourself didn't realize that no other guide/stream site auto-plays and mutes like Mobafire does?
