(unless as I said it turns out you got a ton of +rep for calling someone a 'douche')

I guess that's what bothers me. What's the point of rep if everyone starts questioning whether rep is deserved or not at every post? If you implement this, should moderators start moderating the rep economy? Should I get warned or banned for +repping a seemingly empty post?

Furthermore it probably will lead to weird situations because TIL you can only +rep someone 10 times. So if I have exceeded that limit and people start expecting a +rep then it would come across as rude if I wouldn't +rep someone who helped me while I had no option to. It's something different than the "Thanks" system on some popular BBSs.

Actually giving useless +rep is no problem at all - admins can always demote users if it turns out they got their +rep in an unfair way.

Before that 10 +rep per person rule, +rep circles were formed where people would just randomly give +rep for no reason at all. I agree it's not a fantastic solution, but I'd rather have a little less +rep than a bunch of people getting promoted for absolutely no reason.

I think a refresh every 3 months would be okay - 3 months after I last gave someone the last of 10 +rep, I can give that person +rep again. However I think it's quite hard to realize that, and face it - is it really worth it?

A rep tracker would defeat the purpose of having Rep. I do not wish to see what I said that people deemed helpful/rep worthy because it would dictate the way I post. Yes I like receiving Rep but I do not my make posts on this site for the sole purpose of receiving it.

What I meant is that a comment that might mean the world to me may very well mean nothing to everyone else. I can imagine it being a hard task to decide whether that +rep was useless or not. (And a hard time doing that for every rep given)

I understand the decision and I don't think it's a bad one but I do think that, with this rule in mind, visualizing it would lead to situations I described above. It's not about you not getting the +rep, but the fact that my appreciation for your post couldn't be shown using the system.

If the visualization system would happen, then I think it would be worth it. But I don't think the visualization system will ever work perfectly because rep is apparently(?) strongly tied to promotions.

On the other hand, if you do visualize it, I think it'll be easy to identify these +rep circles and act, making the limit unnecessary.

I'm thinking this through too much. +rep for your explanations :P

Yes, definitely not something anyone wants to do, and then there's the discussions... gives me headaches thinking about it :P

Yes, 100 +rep = editor and 150 +rep = scout, while 200 +rep nominates you for Veteran :) They used to be lower, though.

You dare erase my glorious 420 +rep? :D
