Dignitas sent packing in the OGN The Champions

by Alan LaFleur July 13, 2012 @ 08:07am

Day 2 of group B for The Champions was set to answer a lot of questions about all the teams.
Will Azubu Frost turn it around and take 2 straight to get out of the group stage? Can NaJin Sword beat Azubu Frost to win the group? Can RoMg shock NaJin Sword the same way they shocked Azubu Frost on day 1? Is Dignitas up to the challenge of playing against the best of the best in Korea?

The game gets underway after an hour delay due to Azubu Shy's computer.

In what started out as a really rough game for Azubu Frost, they really turned it around. NaJin shield had every timer on the map, was able to roam freely, and looked very much in control. However, despite the stealing the blue buff and getting 3 dragons in a row, NaJin Sword couldn't put the nail in the coffin of Azubu Frost. The 2nd place finishers were able to steal Baron and push down towers to get themselves back in control which allowed their team fighting skills to take over. A couple team fights in a row and Frost was able to take the advantage and push for the win.

The win keeps Frost in contention but they will need to crush the hopes and dreams of North American, Team Dignitas, to do so.

NaJin Sword has to beat RoMg in order to move on.

After another really long delay that has to be affecting the players. The game starts and it is full of action. RoMg was constantly reminded that the Malphite ultimate is really good and combine that with Leona and it is complete lockdown.

The kills looked to be close for the first 20 minutes but the gold told a different story. NaJin Sword just held objectives and farm a lot better than the amateur team. Unfortunately that meant that we wouldn't see the underdog take a surprising victory like we did on Wednesday.

After a dragon was taken down Sword was able to take a 4 for 0 fight due to splitting up RoMg. Corki was able to get away but RoMg wasn't able to do the damage needed without him. At this point Sword had a 9k gold lead. The Graves on Sword, PraY, was absolutely fed at 7/1/11 and there was little RoMg could do to contain him. The lead from NaJin Sword was too much to overcome.

In their picks and bans, Dignitas decided to pick Soraka and Karthus but their fatal mistake was picking Irelia before knowing who she would lane against. The Jax pick up from Azubu Frost locked down the top lane. So it was an uphill battle from the start for the North American team.

The game was plenty exciting in the first few minutes but everyone was escaping with slivers of health. Blitzcrank pulls were landing, Requiem was going off at the right moments, and towers were being dived, but no one was dying. Until 7 minutes in when CloudTemplar got a nice pull with Skarner on L0CUST ( Soraka).

Skarner started to constantly gank after picking up an early oracles. CloudTemplar focused on ganking the bottom lane and middle lane leaving the top lane to do their own thing. The aggression from Skarner and Rapid Star on Anivia was giving Scarra trouble. Dignitas started to tilt.

Yes, Dr. Mundo is a counter jungling champion but in moments like these he needs to gank a little. The middle and bottom lanes received very little help from IWDominate and in return the lanes were getting dominated by Azubu Frost. At one point, Frost was up 7 kills to 0.

Dignitas tried to get back in the game by sneaking a baron but Frost saw them enter the baron pit with a well-placed ward. The Korean team huddled around the pit and ambushed the North Americans as soon as they exited which resulted in an ace. The game went on for a little bit longer but it was really over. Azubu Frost was able to win the game and cement themselves in the round of 8.

The technical difficulties plagued day that was day 2 of group B ended up answering all the questions from earlier. Yes, Azubu Frost is still really good even without Locodoco. NaJin Sword couldn't beat Azubu Frost but was able to destroy RoMg in order to get into the round of 8. RoMg is not quite ready to consistently play with the big boys. Dignitas showed they cannot hang with the top Korean teams.

An unfortunate exit for the North American team. However, we still have Counter Logic Gaming NA and EU to look forward to, along with Natus Vincere next week.
