Gambit and Evil Geniuses battle on Super Friday
eSports Central
The super week for the EU LCS could make or break the whole season for some of the teams. Teams like GIANTS, aAa, or DragonBorns could see themselves back in the hunt if they get on a hot streak this weekend. However, an ill-timed cold streak could be the nail in the coffin. On the other side, the top teams have a chance to put greater distance between them and the rest of the field. A lot can change by the end of the play on Sunday.
EU Super Friday VODS
The game between Evil Geniuses and Gambit Gaming had to be the biggest match of the EU super week. Gambit surely was out for revenge for their week 1 lost to Snoopeh and company. The Evil Geniuses needed the win to stay close to Fnatic in the standings. Whomever won here could gain the momentum needed heading into the midway point of the spring season.
The laning phase was active for Gambit. The Russian squad basically tri-laned the top lane with Genja, Edward, and Diamond zoning and killing Wickd and Snoopeh twice each. The two teams decided to posture for dragon once the top tower was taken by Gambit and the bottom one by EG. The Evil Geniuses were able to take the dragon very fast but they paid for it with a death on Wickd. After the dragon pick-up by EG, Gambit had a about a 2k gold lead on EG due to farm advantage and the 5 to 1 kill lead.
Another huge teamfight happened when the 2nd dragon spawned. Alex Ich fell really fast but a fantastic
The Box by Edward trapped Snoopeh and Wickd which enabled the rest of Gambit to pick them off quickly and secure the dragon. Gambit's lead was getting bigger by the minute by shutting down Wickd's
Irelia that was sitting at 0/4/2 and only 80 cs at 20 minutes. Alex Ich and Darien both had a 40 cs lead on their lane opponents.
A fight broke out right before a 3rd dragon spawned around the 24 minute mark and it did not bode well for EG. Edward hooked in Froggen and then the box from Edward was so well placed that it was hard for EG to maneuver and they couldn't fight back at all and the fact that Wickd wasn't involved in the fight helped Gambit. The fight went 4 for 0 for Gambit giving them an 11 to 3 lead in kills. Gambit easily took the baron, giving them a 7k gold lead. The baron buff allowed Gambit to quickly push down towers and grab their 2nd dragon of the game. In the final push for Gambit, yet another well placed box from Edward allowed them to easily take out EG and easily push for the win at around 28 minutes and a 16 to 3 kill difference. Edward was able to go 5/0/11 and had to be the MVP of this game.
With the win Gambit should gain the confidence to take on the team sitting at the top of the table on Saturday. They play Fnatic in the 4th game on Saturday and by the end of the weekend the game could be the deciding factor of who sits in the top spot. Evil Geniuses have a couple games to compose themselves and rebound before facing Fnatic next week.
