MYM meet their makers in The Siege

Here at MOBAFire eSports we haven't covered the European scene as much as we would like which means this is our first article on The Siege. So, what is The Siege? It is a multiphase tournament that is ran by the same people that do The Defense in DotA 2. The teams for the tournament were determined through 12 invites and 4 teams that qualified through two qualifiers. The teams that qualified for a chance to play with the elites of Europe were: LogiX and tT Dragons from Germany, Peluquerias Naruterador (PEINE) from Spain, and Team Megaschock. The tournament consists of the following:

  • First group stage
    4 Groups of 4 teams

  • Second group stage
4 Groups of 3 teams that qualified from the first group stage

  • Playoffs
The final eight teams that make it through the second group stage

The tournament consists of the titans of Europe with Moscow Five, SK Gaming, Curse EU, Fnatic. However, the invites also include up and coming teams like Gamehoppers, mouz, Acer, and Meet Your Makers. The variety of teams allows for exciting upsets throughout the long tournament.

Meet Your Makers had the hard task of playing two best of 3 matches today. The task wasn't in playing the matches but rather in who they were facing, the juggernaut that is Moscow Five. Already being 0-1 in the group after a loss to Gamehoppers on Tuesday meant that today held the fate of if they moved on in to the second groupstage; one loss and they were done for. Win or lose it will set a certain mood for the MYM squad that they can either feed off or let it destroy them. Which one will it be?

The game starts off really defensively for both teams but the action quickly ramps up as both junglers start to gank non-stop. The incessant ganking of Diamondprox on the bottom lane puts Makler behind Genja. While Czaru was able to handle Alex Ich rather easily by landing an amazing Dark Binding over and over again.

The constant ganking in bottom lane from both junglers created one of the most unstable bottom lanes I have ever seen. The attitude wasn't, "I'm going to sit here and farm for 20 minutes", it was more like "If you cross that line, you die!" That type of aggression is what Moscow Five thrive in, so the trades were constantly in their favor. Since all the action was in bottom lane, it left Darien and cinkowski to trade all they want. For the most part, cinkowski gets the best of the trades and has a very slight lead going into the mid-game.

The game became a protect the Kog'Maw but not the passive poke composition that Counter Logic Gaming likes to run. Moscow Five decided to play aggressive while making sure that Genja was safe and they played it flawlessly. Nunu with his slows and ultimate, Udyr with his turtle stance and stun, and Yorick refusing to die, allowed Genja to blast people from the backlines. Gosu Pepper brought back the 'EMPIRE!!!' days as he would sit in bushes while the team baited and as MYM got close he would channel Absolute Zero, resulting in MYM being at half health to start the fight.

It looked as if Moscow Five was toying with MYM for a while but eventually had enough. They rush the nexus after a really good team fight where Alex Ich chases down Makler and takes him down early, from there the damage of not only Alex Ich and Genja but also Gosu Pepper is too much for the MYM team. M5 takes out the nexus in 28 minutes.

The Gosu Pepper Sona is always fun to watch. However, it also puts up a huge target. A target that Meet Your Makers might have focused on a bit too much. Gosu Pepper, constantly trailblazing, starts boots, ward, and 2 potions on Sona. How much does it pay off, I'm not entirely sure.

Diamondprox is playing a much less aggressive game and gets an early oracle in order to clear out the wards that MYM put down in droves thinking he would be really aggressive. However, Meet Your Makers have decided to focus on bottom lane and taking out Gosu Pepper, which they do a good job of. Unfortunately the strategy hardly pays off despite Makler getting way ahead and farmed by focusing down Sona so much. The top lane is getting destroyed by Darien and Alex Ich is having a much better game 2 against Czaru.

Darien was able to get to a point where he could 1v2 MYM since he was so farmed and that didn't show a good future for the underdogs. Darien, Genja, and Alex Ich went unchecked for the whole game allowing them to steamroll MYM at will. M5 decided the time was right and pushed up the ramp and Alex Ich picked up a quadra-kill that led to a surrender from the underdogs.

This means that MYM is statistically out of The Siege but still had a match to play against LogiX.
