Azubu Training Quarters Tour
Azubu Blaze Interview
When did you find out about participating in MLG Arena? How did you feel about the news?
Reapered: I am very glad that we were invited to the international competition MLG Arena and we would like to be out there showing fans what we could do and how well we could do. So far, if it goes well we will like to continue and go to MLG Championship and show the world that Azubu Blaze is a good and nice team from participating in the MLG Arena.
What are your thoughts about going up against powerhouse Western teams like SoloMid, and Curse, and European team BLACK? How confident are you guys?
Cpt Jack: Against all the foreign teams we are going to try our best and would like to show them that Korean teams can compete with the foreign teams as well. And, we will probably win most of the games.
How are you preparing for MLG Arena?
Reapered: Preparing for MLG Arena, we are practicing with Azubu Frost and reconnect with some of the unknown Asian teams to prepare.
Usually, what is the day to day training like for Azubu?
Ambition: We're practicing on a schedule, we have all the schedule planned out. Outside of the schedule we are also individually practicing for the MLG Arena.
What is a usual day to day for you when you aren't training?
Reapered: On the weekdays we usually practice all the time, on the weekends we are free from the game. So, we either go home meet the families or don't play at all. Hang out with friends or relatives.
How do you view western training schedules in comparison to Korean?
Reapered: For foreign teams they have free time, they are freely training themselves. They don't have any fix time to practice. But, most of the Korean professional teams have a fixed time, a team practice, and an individual practice. So, it's different but we are trying our best to practice most of our time to win against the teams.
Do you feel Western teams play the metagame all the same, how does it differ from Korea?
Reapered: Most of the foreign teams are more concentrated on pushing the lanes and their own respective individual opinion when they are playing the game. So they have their own decisions but they also follow the leader. For Korean teams mainly there is one person who has the absolute power. He gives all the orders and when he sees five champions together he only thinks about what they can do together. Some of the foreign teams do have what the Koreans are doing, but those two things are the main difference.
How do you think the Korean metagame can compete with the Western metagame?
Reapered: Azubu Blaze uses a different meta compared to other Korean teams, but when we go up against foreign teams we can probably make it happen so it should be okay. We can probably compete with them without a problem.
What are the top 3 bans for the team and why?
Lustboy: Azubu Blaze usually bans Malphite, Alistair, and Ryze because Ambition doesn't like Ryze, and Cpt Jack doesn't like Malphite because he just doesn't like it. Alistair we don't like to use and we don't like other teams to use.
Going back to the MLG Arena, which teams are you most looking forward to playing? Who do you think will be your greatest challenge? Why is that?
Reapered: In MLG Arena there are four teams basically, Team SoloMid, Curse, BLACK, and Azubu Blaze. Black we don't know anything about it so can't really prepare anything, when we get there we will find out when we play them. Team SoloMid is a very famous team and they're a very well known team. We would like to win against them because if we win against the famous team our name brand will be higher and the sponsor Azubu will be well known among other game players and people who are watching. Curse, they are really strong on every lane so we are trying to watch out for the lanes so we can compete in the game.
How closely have you guys been following the Western teams play going into the Arena? Is there anything that surprised you, or anything that you think is interesting of their strategies or team play?
Reapered: Azubu Blaze watches all the foreign games, and out of all those foreign games if we think this might be effective strategy for the team we change it to Blaze Style and make it more useful. Like Shyvana from M5 or how they get the fast dragon, or destroying towers. Whenever we see in foreign game play if we see the play we will adapt it and change it into Blaze Style and make it very efficient.
What are your thoughts on the Western events like the IPL or MLG? How do you feel they compare to Korean events?
Reapered: This is the first time going to a competition in a foreign country, so we never experienced it before. So next time when we have another interview like this we can tell you how we feel about it.
Is the MLG Arena the start of Azubu participating in more Western competitions? What are your plans for the future to compete in more international events? Where can we see the Azubu teams next?
Reapered: For Azubu Blaze, this is the first time going outside of Korea competing in a foreign country. We would like to participate in any events if you guys invite us. We would like to see different teams in other countries, meet new fans outside of Korea, and make new friends so we could practice more different styles with different teams. For upcoming events, we will participate in MLG Arena, next one in Taiwan, and another in LA. Just invite us and we would like to participate and have fun in your competition.
Going into this season of The Champions, do you feel like the competition is stiffer this season than last season?
Helios: This season is a lot compared to last season. There are a lot of foreign teams here, especially CLG EU. Last season CLG NA didn't go that far, so CLG EU is probably aiming to go high. They probably have some other hidden strategy so we are a little afraid. We are practicing a lot so we are going to be okay. We probably won't have as many wins as the last time but we will try our best to probably win.
What is your perception of the Southeast Asian scene? (Taipei Assassins, Singapore Sentinels, etc...). How do you feel about these teams?
Ambition: TPA or other Southeast Asian teams, they are not that well known here and also we had different practice matches and we didn't have any problems so they are not a big threat to us. It's not going to be any problem.
Cpt Jack, if Graves is banned against you, do you feel like you can still carry the game with other champions?
Cpt Jack: It's not like I can only play with Graves, I have other champions I can use. But when it's open and available I'll take it because I set it up for the best options. So, I can play well with Graves but I can also play well with other champions as well. If you want to ban Graves go ahead, but it's going to be okay I can play with others so don't worry.
Do you believe that the Season 2 World Championship could be won by a Korean team?
Lustboy: From all the videos and game plays of teams that we've seen, compared to them and the other Korean teams, there is not much of a difference. So, if you practice hard and for Azubu Blaze I think we can probably win. For people who are watching, just practice a lot and we'll see you in L.A.
Now, going away from competitive League of Legends, how excited are you guys to be going to New York City? Have you been here before, what are you looking forward to experiencing? Anything in particular about New York City that you want to experience? What have you heard of the city?
Cpt Jack: Except for me, none of us have been to New York. But for me I went there when I was in 6th grade so I don't really remember it much. When I go back there again, I'd like to go walk around in New York City with a coffee in my hand and just relax.
Reapered: I would like to get through the MLG Arena [to win] and have a seed at the competition (Season 2 Championships) in L.A.

Can you please go through each team competing in the MLG Arena to let us know what your thoughts are about them and their game play? Curse, Team SoloMid, and Team Black?
Reapered: All those three teams are very strong so it will be very hard for us to compete against them. But, we have been practicing very hard. For Team SoloMid they have very strong lanes like bottom and they are very aggressive. So, we are trying to play with other aggressive teams to prepare. For Curse, they are very fun loving game players so they have a unique game style trying to have fun. So we are trying to have fun as well when we play. For Black, we don't have much information on them so when we get there we will find out. We are practicing hard so everything will be fine. We are just ready to go.
Thanks for doing the interview, any shout outs?
Reapered: Blaze is going to attend every different competition in different countries that we can. Personally I'd like all the fans to get to know the other four members of the team, not only Cpt Jack. So please get to know the other team members, we are great like Cpt Jack and are fun loving people. Take care of us, not just Cpt Jack!
