Solomid.net Announces Offseason Tournament Series
eSports Central
Solomid.net has announced an off-season tournament series featuring 8 top North American teams. Seven of the eight teams have been announced:
- Team Solomid
- Curse Gaming
- Team Dignitas
- mMe Ferus
- Orbit Gaming
- Team Dynamic
- Team Legion
The eighth team slot will be filled through an 8 team qualifier. The Solomid Series was slated to have the qualifier only be a 4 team qualifier but interest from unsuspected teams and the desire by Solomid to have the best possible team increased the field to 8. As the tournament admin and person in charge of booking teams, Pingmeep, said on Reddit: "It looks like a 8 team single elimination qualifier. Three rounds of Bo3 sets will determine which team gets the spot and will also seed substitute teams in case one of the eight can't make it to any of the 6 $3K events."
Messiah, the Solomid Tournament Director, said this about the move to 8 teams instead of 4, "There is a large pool of NA teams that deserve a chance to shine. As demonstrated from our previous SoloMid Invitationals, some teams can show drastic improvements within a short period of time."
The format of the Solomid Series will be the following:
The point distribution for each tournament has not been publicly announced yet.
Teams compete in six $3,000USD events to earn their way to a $12,000USD final among the league's top 4 teams.
You will notice that Counter Logic Gaming Prime is absent from the list. Pingmeep said that Solomid has reached out to CLG but they have not responded. "Tried for all the top teams in NA. Some said no. That 8th slot might be the most interesting. Technically CLG could probably make it in through the qualifiers if they wanted to."
Solomid Invitationals, and every other online tournament has been plagued by teams using substitutes and, in a sense, devaluing the competition. Messiah said this about subs: "Subs will be allowed, but with limitations. Sometimes a player really cannot make it so either the team uses a sub or they cannot play at all. Look at MLG for example when CLG had a sub. There is always going to be drama about every little thing so it is more about choosing the lesser of two evils rather than making perfect decisions."
