Team Spotlight - mTw

by Mowen July 3, 2012 @ 07:07pm

mTw is a German-based gaming clan founded in 1998 by the name "mortal Teamwork." While they've had sponsored teams for many year they only recently acquired their first League of Legends team February 1st 2012. However, mTw wanted to expand their clan into the North American gaming scene, and on February 14th announced the upcoming LoL team "APictureO***oose" would be joining their clan as mTw-NA. I am sure Goose felt loved that Valentine's Day!

While Goose was not big in the LoL eSports scene, they had made a name for themselves by qualifying for IEM Kiev alongside big names like Team SoloMid and Dignitas. Goose also beat out the teams Epik Gamer, Curse and V8 during the IEM qualifiers; surprising watchers everywhere. Their meta-breaking team compositions caught the competition off-guard. These other teams didn't know how to deal with a jungle Pantheon or Shaco, and were forced to ban champions they normally wouldn't. This gave Goose an edge in picks, and they made sure to grab high priority champions to improve their chances. Viewers were enchanted by this relatively unknown team's success, and their quirky play-style.

Despite Goose's success they were unable to raise the funds necessary for their team's travel expenses to go to IEM Kiev. This was a major disappointment for all their fans. However, luckily mTw was looking for a NA team for their clan, and they decided Goose was a perfect fit. Now that Goose is mTw-NA they can participate in more tournaments and get the recognition they deserve.

A nice thing about mTw-NA is that they have had very minimal line-up changes throughout the team's history. Their current line-up is the same as when their team was APictureO***oose with the exception of Muffinqt on support instead of Goose's cuRtoKy who left the team for undisclosed reasons.

mTw-NA continues to throw the other teams curve balls during tournaments. For example, in the 3rd Team SoloMid Invitational team captain Atlanta switched to Top Lane and Balls took AD Carry. This change threw competitors off their game since they weren't familiar with these players in these roles. mTw also made a point of being aggressive from level one, often stealing buffs or slowing down the enemy jungler by splitting up and distracting the other team. Their mid player mandatorycloud played Soraka for one game, which is a pretty unseen mid champion even outside of the competitive arena. It's good to see them continue to use surprise tactics to catch the enemy team off-guard and gain the advantage.
