|
I have just been curios guys about why some champions are not played that much. I know that unpopular picks like swain, galio, mao'kai, and yorick are all strong picks in their respective fields. What I am trying to get to in this is why some champions are not played as much as others these champions are strong just wanted someone to explain to me why no one is regularly playing these champions. Is it because no PRO player is playing them or have they just been forgotten?
There are some cases like Sion where they are extremely outdated to the point that they are not viable or strong picks.
Usually the reason that these champions are picked at all is because the players like them personally. I like Maokai, but if I didn't, then there would be no reason to pick him over someone like Vi or Kha'Zix.
You might find a Viktor here and there carrying a game against a mid laner that could be considered "normal" but there are tons of other factors that go into winning a game.
U dum. They're not played because they're not strong.
Either underpowered kit (mao'kai, yorick), poorly functioning kit (galio), or awful matchups (swain) to meta champs
It's no different then playing dodge ball in middle school the short fat kid who can offer the least to the team is always picked last.
It sucked growing up I was the short little kid minus the fat, but always picked last for dodge ball.
For example, swain's a good pick, although he has some pretty terrible mobility. Even though he is a lane bully, he's not able to use his kit to his fullest because he must constantly worry about jungler ganks.
Maokai used to be a strong pick, but because of the jungle camp buffs that happened in season 3, he has trouble quickly clearing his first wave of camps. This means that he loses a lot of map pressure.
Galio isn't picked often because he has mana problems,
And lastly, yorick used to be a strong pick - he used to be a near unbeatable lane... However, the rework of tiamat in season 3 gave people an easy answer to stopping his ghouls.
