I did hear that all Dota champs are unlocked, so you don't have to unlock champions, that may be some of the reason why some of them left,

Lol, just kidding. But still, like Ninja said, all the champs are unlocked for everyone to be able to play. And there is quite a lot of champs, with my experience showing a couple of champs getting released when they do get released. You pointed out some reasons as well, and there is some more customization to it. With all the individuals items rather than skins, the announcer voice change available for purchase, and the couriers (which also can have a change in appearance purchase available), there is quite a lot to use for customizing champs. Not to mention Steam. With Steam, users are creating customization items, and often they are put in the game. Plus you buy the items with actual money, not buying something like RP then buying skins.

The Building fortification buff prevents a hero from simply backdooring. Furthermore, the buff allows the activators to spend an extended amount of time out of lane (say, ganking) without having to worry about a tower falling while they are away. I guess we just aren't on the same ground here.


Anyways, ninjatrigger's idea of having all the characters already unlocked seems quite reasonable.

Totally different games.

I've played HoN, DotA and DOTA 2 for quite a long time (been playing them for the last year intensively). I got 300 hours in DOTA 2. The impression I have is that both DOTA 2 and HoN are way more competitive games. The options you have with items, builds and the gameplay is so complex it's almost infinite. Just the fact that the level cap is 25 and you get to choose if you want attribute points or skills make it an entire different game. Getting attributes over skills will give you survivability and mana early game.

I see LoL as a friendly MOBA, and that's why I moved to LoL. That also explains the average age of the players and the ammount of them in the entire world (something like 30 million accounts?). It's a lot easier, you have to think less, the heroes are plain and simple. Of course, you can play it competitively too, but it's not the same. DOTA 2 is just a lot more harder to master and heroes are a lot deeper.

That's my 2 cents though. In the end it's a matter of taste. I have more fun playing LoL champs, the skills are fun and the game feels a lot easier.
