One quick tip/combo I found to work well and which will get off the (theoretically)highest amount(s) of burst damage while Arcane Mastery is at four stacks or has just been triggered:

Desperate Power(to trigger passive/right after it's been triggered)-> Overload(Q)-> Rune Prison(W)->Q-> Spell Flux(E)->Q (-> proceed as you please)

This will ensure the second most burst damage while still locking them down should they be trying to get away. For the actually highest damage burst combo, you'd switch W with E for the additional MR shred while sacrificing the immediate lockdown, so make sure that they cannot escape at all:

R(same reasons)->Q->E->Q->W->Q (-> proceed as you please)

Note that you should always weave in Q's if your mana allows it, since Q gets a reset with each spell you cast that is NOT Q itself. The reduced time on your Ultimate is 6 seconds(with Q and R at max rank, runes/masteries/items not taken into account) with this combo alone in a minimal time frame(it took me two seconds at most when I tried it) and the damage you deal is just insane granted that you hit all of it.

A couple of interesting thing I found out with the new ryze that you might want to add:

Maxing e first vs melee champs is really good. They cant go near the minion wave of risk of getting almost 1/5 losing almost 1/5 of their health. You can force them out or trade very efficiently this way.

Ryze is a hard counter to renekton. Like an extrem hard counter. just max e, snare and trade and he is out of the lane or dead before notime.

If you want dmg on your glymphs then magic penetration is actually by far the best choice. Ryze AP scaling got buffed but its still kind of ****ty. If you do the math it becomes clear that magic penetration is the way to go.

Ryze mana scaling sucks and his AP scaling is okayish. But together the scalling is really good. The items that gives both mana and AP is mandatory on him because they are so efficient.

Even thou luden seems like a good option death cap is just so much more efficient on ryze. Almost twice the bonus dmg after ROA and Archangels.

You can still function as a mage bruiser if you build defensively after ROA and Archangels. Its not as good at it used to be however.

Ryze went from being one of the easiest champs to one of the hardest with the rework. People think he sucks but I dont think its true. He is just so much more skill demanding now. You have to pick him in the right machups. Have good timing, positioning, skill shots and good itemization/runes/masteries for the mu. And also landing all your skills in exactly the right order really fast in the heat of battle while kiting. Not utilizing the "free q"s you get when your passive is up while dramatically lower your dmg output. You cant mash any longer.

Just my 10 cents.

Hey, I followed your guide today and did well :). So, with this changes, is he more of a midlaner now than top? I tested it today on top. If you start flask you can start wolves (Q them one by one, E doesn't work), go to base, buy a cloth armor/boots (boots only if you wait a few seconds to get 325)and tp to lane. Flask is also such a good item for top laners as you can return more to base thanks to tp. I used 21/0/9 as you put it but I took culinary master instead of runic affinity. He was fairly squishy against a master yi, but everytime he Qed me I walked to tower and w him.

I don't think Luden's Echo is going to work very well on him. It would give you more burst but timing your stacks and the item's stacks... difficult. Also luden's is an item you generally rush, and Ryze can't afford to do that.

So with this changes I see him more squishy but then again he excels against melee and the high threats to him you put in your guide are all midlaners. Let's see if he can become a top carry like lissandra, rumble and such, but I don't think so :(

Your guide gave me an idea: Riot buffed Ryze's AP scalings, while nerfing his MANA scalings. Wouldn't it be better to build more AP, than mana, which leads to us getting rid of Tear?
It's gonna be straight RoA and other items, whichever the player prefers. This doesn't make Ryze such a "long" champion in terms of his power spike, which is supposed to be late-late-late game.
What do you think?

It might be good. I'll try rushing RoA and perhaps swapping Seraph's for Luden's Echo since Luden's Echo is a strong early pickup.

Mana isn't a useless stat on Ryze but it certainly feels less impactful now. Seraph's does have the added benefit of the shield and a pretty impressive amount of AP though.
