Why do you use a dorans shield? Dorans ring is a much better starting item for jax. He gets more health than a dorans shield because of his passive and it also gives some more damage with the leap strike and empower combo. The armor from the shield i believe isn't needed because you take defensive masteries anyway. Health regen is alright but you do buy a health potion so if you play smart it also isnt needed. Just my preference really.

I would +1 this 100 times if I could, this build is that good. Finally managed to finish this build in a real game and proceeded to 1v5 the entire other team after our ryze went afk. They literally couldn't put out enough damage to stop me before I killed them all. Good times.

Only 1 in 3 attacks does magic damage, so you will benefit more from armor pen in the long run. Not to mention it helps with farming and early game damage. You can't really just rely on Leap Strike and Empower and every third attack for damage.

This build is O.K. It is great for survivability, but the damage output is just not as good as if you built less tanky items...
Jax is only an off-tank due to his passive...
The build I prefer is:
1. Ninja Tabi
2. Rageblade
3. Phantom Dancer
4. Infinity Edge
5. Hextech Gunblade
6. Hextech Gunblade
With this full build you get massive lifsteal and spell vamp and around 2.4 AS with full stacks from ulti and rageblade, AND you still have massive survivability with around 3.3k HP. Not saying this build is bad, but it's not a very good build for a person that really knows how to play Jax and doesn't need all that survivability...

I recommend trying AD marks and AP or AD quints. Not only does he gain hp from it, his Leap Strike scales with AD but deals magic dmg so AD is better than armor pen for leapstrike damage. I also recommend switching to (or atleast recommending it if there are armor stacking enemies involved) percental armor pen if you change the runes that way. Last Whisper is a good item for fighters like Jax.

Some magic pen might be needed too since he has a lot of magic dmg. Archaic Knowledge perhaps?
