Ranked Play

So, before we start i just want to make things clear. If you are not familiar with Ekko, don't start with this build. There are many good AP Ekko guides, be sure to check out spark2's AP Ekko guide, Sekkonds, it's extremely in-depth and well-writen and he did an amazing job with it. I suggest you not to play ranked with my build, because you are probably gonna get flamed a lot even if you make a small mistake. Always try new things out in normal games.
General tips if you want to play ranked :
  • Don't troll. Trolling is bad for you and your teammates. If they don't let you to play your main role just go what is left. If someone says that they prefer top but he's lastpick, if you are not a top main and only support is open, just go support even if you suck at supporting, because the other guy probably sucks at supporting too, but he might be a good top laner. If they lose the lane you wanted to go...
  • Don't flame. Flameing ain't gonna make anything better, they will play even worse if you tell them that they suck plus they might report you, and you don't want that. If you get flamed don't flame back, just mute them.
  • Don't go on a tilt. If you lose a lot, stop. You don't want to lose more than three games in a row. Go out, do something, play normals. If you go on a tilt it might result that you lose all of your LP and maybe your rank.

Skill Sequence

> > >
Start with Parallel Convergence for the stun and the increased damage on low health enemies but max out Timewinder first for that increased slow, then max Parallel Convergence for the lower cooldown and the increased shield, and max Phase Dive last. Put a point on Chronobreak every time you can.

Skill Explanation

Z-Drive Resonance(Passive): Every basic attack applies a stack of Resonance on enemies. At 3 stack the target is damaged and slowed. The damage is scaling off of ap, but it still does a lot of damage. When you proc your passive on an enemy champion you also get a speed buff which equals to the strength and duration of the slow (ex. at level 1 you slow by 40% for 2 seconds, which means that you get a 40% movespeed buff for 2 seconds). This will allow you to be very sticky and deal lots of damage at the same time.

Timewinder(Q): You throw a skillshot which deals magic damage, and when it reaches it's maximum range or hits an enemy minion or champion it expands into a slowing field. Enemies that enter into the slowing field are also damaged. After a few seconds it returns to you, dealing more damage. This spell applies your passive. Since you are not going to buy ap you mainly want to use this spell to clear your jungle, slow your enemies when ganking or chasing and applying stacks of your passive.

Parallel Convergence(W): This spell has a passive and an active effect.
Passive : Your basic attacks deal 5% of the target's missing health as bonus magic damage versus targets below 30% of their maximum health.
Active : Ekko calls upon an alternate version of himself that bats a device to the target location. After a total delay of 3 seconds, the device expands into a broad sphere that slows enemies by 40%. If you enter the sphere you stun the enemies within for 2.25 seconds and gain a shield for 2 seconds.
When clearing jungle camps the stun and the % health damage is very strong, but since the stun lasts longer than your shield, you can't take advantage of the shield when fighting mobs.

Phase Dive(E): You dash toward to a target location. Your next basic attack within the next few seconds gain 300 bonus attack range (425 total range) and cause you to blink on your target, dealing bonus magic damage. This is your general ganking/assasinateing ability. Use this whenever you can when fighting.

Chronobreak(R): This spell has a passive and an active effect.
Passive : A time-delayed hologram of you follows you. The hologram is at where you were 4 seconds ago.
Active : After a short delay you blink back where your hologram was, dealing damage and healing for a flat amount plus 20/25/30% of damage taken in the last 4 seconds. Note that you are invulnerable and untargetable during the brief delay between disappearing and reappearing.

Items

Starting items

Hunter's Machete: Basic jungle starting item, you can upgrade this to get your better smite plus the devourer enchant.

Health Potion x3: With the remaining gold you want to pick up three health pots to be able to clear your jungle without backing after every camp. You should always buy pots or buy the Refillable Potion until you have your lifesteal.

Warding Totem: JUST DO IT!

First back, choosing your smite VS VS

Stalker's Blade: Great slow, allows you to chase or run. Take this if you don't have trouble clearing the camps and you are ganking a lot.

Skirmisher's Sabre: With this your AAs will be even stronger.

Tracker's Knife: This allows you to have 2 wards with you and after you used them you can just recall and get them back for FREE. I've been having succes with this item recently.

Sweeping Lens: If the enemy team wards a lot, or your support doesn't pick this up, be sure to have this.

Core items, choosing boots VS VS

Enchantment: Bloodrazor: The new alternative, since devourer got replaced with Guinsoo's. Not as good as devourer was, but it still gives you a lot of attack speed + bonus AA damage, so I recommend this one for the build.

Blade of the Ruined King: Lifesteal, attack speed, tank shreding, a little bit of everything good, and a great active too. Get this after buying your Bloodrazor.

Berserker's Greaves: Attack speed is thing we aim for the most, and this item is cheap, but gives you a great attack speed bonus and it also gives movement speed of course. Graves OP Kappa

Mercury's Treads: Tenacity. If the enemy team has a lot of CC and magic damage take this boot instead.

Boots of Swiftness: Get this if you aim for high movespeed and better potential to assassinate anyone.

Tanky and optional items

Randuin's Omen: Pretty good item if the enemy team has at least one champ who does physical damage, so you want to pick this up in pretty much 100% of your games. It's got a great active too, be sure to use it.

Dead Man's Plate: This item is perfect for every tank in the game right now. Greatly increases your movement speed plus you get a slow on your basic attack which is huge when you want to stick on your enemy. I'd prefer this item over Randuin's Omen.

Thornmail: If the enemy team has mainly physical damage. Thornmail gives you a lot of armor and the passive effect is pretty good too if you want to assasinate the enemy adc.

Banshee's Veil: Pretty solid item in general. Spellshield is ok.

Locket of the Iron Solari: I don't really like this item, but if you need more magic resist and Banshee's Veil and Spirit Visage is not enough, this can be an option.

Spirit Visage: If you want CDR and you don't want the spellshield. You can also buy both this and Banshee's Veil if the enemy has a lot of magic damage.

Frozen Mallet: Permaslow, some ad, some hp, this can go well with the build.

Manamune: If you REALLY need the mana, you can pick this up i guess...

The Black Cleaver: Destroy their armor, be even more sticky. No racist joke intended.

Guinsoo's Rageblade: This is our new devourer, but you need to auto attacks 6 times before you get the effect. Solid item, I just don't feel that this kind of Ekko is viable, but you can give it a try. Hi.

Choosing your Elixir

Elixir of Wrath: Might be a bad idea to pick this, but the lifesteal and bonus ad can be useful.

Elixir of Iron: Gives you an increased size which i'm not sure if it's bad or good, and it gives you 25% tenacity and it stacks with Mercury's Treads for a total of 60% tenacity. wow 60%? such op

Jungling

You might ask : "But Dan, why is it worth picking Ekko in the jungle with devourer?"
So, why is this worth?

The basic idea was to build around his passive Z-Drive Resonance with the old devourer, like how Vayne's W procs on every second basic attack. As we all know there was two ways building Ekko in the jungle : Now, with bloodrazor you can assasinate people, while being tanky, and this is the main reason why we play him. Now, to jungling.
BLUE SIDE

First clear :

Explanation : Start of with the camp that is on the bot lane side, so Ancient Krug (golems). Smite the big golem when they spawn. Ask your botlane to help you with this one. Then go to your Red Brambleback (red buff) and solo it, then go straight to your Blue Sentinel (blue buff) , smite it, and kill it too. After that you can either gank top or kill your Gromp or the Rift Scuttler , then back off and buy your jungle item and some pots.

After your first clear your route should be :

Gank and kill the Rift Scuttler whenever you can. Pick up the devourer as soon as you can, and continue your route. Also get red and blue when you can (ask your mid if they want the blue).

RED SIDE

Ganking

So here is the part when you gank. I wasn't able to make this part of the guide how i wanted to, and i'm lazy to type everything out, so i'm sorry ,but this is only gonna be a copy and paste from a commenter (GeoenerG ty bro <3)
  • 1. Instead of hitting your W early, start with walking in to the enemy and use your Q to slow down your enemy and apply the passive stacks.
  • 2. After a few hits, throw your W, where you predict your enemy wants to go.
  • 3. Usually the enemy is quite panicked at the moment, so fight in the W, and try to stun him,if you misspredict your w you can always just get the shield from it.
  • 4. You can use your E to get closer to the enemy if they flash out or try to escape, or if the gank failed, you can use your E to get out safely, if you are lucky enough you can jump on a minion.

Teamfights

Your role in teamfights is to assasinate the enemy mid laner or adc. This will result that
  • Their carry is dead, so they are left with no damage.
  • They'll have to peel you down from their carries, so meanwhile your team can kill the rest of them.
