Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Evelynn is not a champion that you see everyday in League of Legends. She is very underestimated and in my opinion, requires great skill to master. In a recent patch, Evelynn was given some changes to her skills. He passive now grants stealth across the battlefield, making her an exceptional ganker. I play Evelynn as a strong AD assassin and help a lot in ganks and team fights.
I build my Mastery Tree as 21/6/3, taking all of the points in offence that increase the amount of damage I do with melee hits, as well as taking reduced death time, movement speed, and increased buff duration in Utility. The runes and ingame item purchases support the defensive side with some Armor and Magic Resist, which goes with the 6 points in Defense.
Marks- I take some attack speed and a few armor pen marks. Early game I like to take a little Life Steal, and taking attack speed will ensure that I get some health back quickly. With Evelynn's chasing power, she is able to stay on the target and continuously receive health as she attacks.
Seals- Attack Damage per level seals. Attack damage is always good on any character, but because Evelynn is squishy early game, I find it more beneficial to have more attack damage late game, rather then early.
Glyphs- Armor and Magic Resist glyphs. This is just for bonus survivability, Evelynn will need some in order to stay strong in the lanes.
Quintessences- I take flat attack damage quintessences because it provides that extra damage that Evelynn needs to blow people up.
My Mastery Build for Evelynn is 21/6/3. In Offence, I take attack damage, attack speed, armor pen, and crit damage. Because I am taking flash, I don't bother taking Summoner's Wrath. Taking some in Utility will ensure my survivability, reduce my death time so I can quickly get back into my lane, and increase my buff's duration. I take a couple points in Defense, for the extra armor and magic resist.
Boots and 3 health potions is a standard start for me with all champions because it allows me to stay in my lane longer to get more gold. I don't take Mana potions with Evelynn because her passive allows her to regenerate 1% of her total mana every second she is in stealth.
When I return back to the shop, I buy my Beserker's Greaves, and then a Vampiric Scepter to help me stay in lane. Later I come back and buy a Zeal, to further increase my movement speed, attack speed, and crit chance to harass a bit in lane. I upgrade that to a Phantom Dancer and then start to go towards my Bloodthirster. I take this because Evelynn is VERY good at farming creeps, giving her bonus life steal for each creep she kills. Infinity Edge and Ghost Blade are next, followed by a Guardian Angel for late game team fights. Potions are purchased after all items are bought and the Oracle should be bought earlier if there is a Stealthy on the other team.
For summoner spells, I like to take Flash and Ignite. Flash is good for anyone, because it allows you to chase champions more, or run away from an enemy champion. Ignite is good for enemies you can't catch up to that have low health. It also is really helpful to defeat champions that heal, such as Dr.Mundo and Vladamir, since it cuts healing.
Sometimes, you can jungle as Evelynn, so take Smite for obvious reasons..
When Attacking A Champion- Wait for your stealth to be active. Walk up on your target and use your Ravage(E) and then spam some Hate Spikes(Q). If the target starts to run, use Shadow Walk(W) to chase them down. If they don't run and your are taking a lot of damage, use Malice and Spite(R) to use the shield and deal some damage.
Evelynn and Her Lane
When I play Evelynn, I play AD carry bot. I melee the creeps to push the lane quick at the beginning, last hitting with the melee if I can, and hitting my Hate Spike(Q) in-between 2 melee hits to ensure I get last hits. I hate to miss out on ExP, so I go back only if I absolutely need to, or if my enemy is MIA in my lane. My Hate Spike(Q) has some what of a long range, so I poke the enemy when I can by lining up my Hate Spike(Q) when hitting creeps.
The reason I push the lane is because Evelynn is great at Ganking. I need to push the lane forward to help gank mid. I usually play with friends on skype and this is how we like to do things, so we get an early advantage. If your new to Evelynn, I would recommend you lane - safely.
Pros / Cons
Evelynn is very good at ganking due to her passive stealth.
Great chasing power!
Outputs a lot of damage in a short amount of time.
Squishy!!!! (Dies fast!)
Gets harassed to easy.
Not too good early game.
When farming creeps with Evelynn, I like to push the lane a lot. This allows me to get attacked my enemy champions quite often. In order to solve this, wait until the creeps are low in health and walk near them and hit your Hate Spike(Q). This will ensure that you get the most out of each creep wave and have plenty of gold to purchase items with.
Remember, don't get to confident when fighting your enemy, your are squishy, so wait for your partner to engage first!
Creeping / Jungling
Personally, I don't like to jungle at all because i'm terrible at choosing routes to go through.
What I Know:
Get Hate Spike(Q) first.
Line Up your Hate Spike to hit as many creeps as possible to execute the most amount of damage in the smallest amount of mana.
I will Update This section when I know more about Jungling with Evelynn. I will try out some game and Jungle Routes to test it out myself.
If you took the time to read this short yet detailed Evelynn guide, it would be greatly appreciated if your leave a comment and a rating. I will read your suggestions and revise my Build. I will put your name in this box and your suggestion, and what I did to fix it.
People Who Have Helped Me Make This Guide Better:
~Numinaful - Perhaps add a Jungling Section, Type a bit more, "explain all summoner abilities and benefits, disadvantages... situational items... jungling items... main core items (That are amust) etc etc etc"
~bignick18 - Add a Trinity Force because it will be stronger then the items you have chosen.
RhaegarT - Where is this champion being played, NEED DEFENSE!, will die a lot and fast if I don't pick up some defensive items early game.
What I Did/Am Doing to Fix It
~Numinaful - I am making an Evelynn Jungling Guide soon. I will add more about everything and why I chose it. Thanks for the help! :)
~bignick18 - Your Absolutely right, Im sorry that I didn't think of it sooner, I usually add Trinity Force in my ingame build. I will fix that now! Thanks for the suggestion! :)
RhaegarT - I see where you have your concerns.. The thing is, you are right, and I do need early game defenses... In real games, I do die a lot, but I also get a lot of kills... I will add more defense in masterys and runes and try to add more about lane role... Thanks for the enormous help! :)
