Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Basically I am creating this guide because I have read through all the Udyr guides and find every one of them to be lacking in the fact they do not capitalize on Udyrs strong points. I will be updating the guide with more Information once I have some Video Recordings and more time.
RUNES & MASTERIES
My masteries are 1/18/11
The way i feel about masteries on Udyr is that you really need the defense tree for a strong early game. With the majority in defense masteries people will underestimate how much dmg you will be able to take and this will get you kills on unsuspecting enemies.
Now if you feel you don\'t want Defense masteries you may do anything you please. this build should be strong regardless of your masteries. this is just my personal preference.
Mark = armor pen
Seal = Dodge
Glyph = CD reduction (your pref on level based or flat)
Quint = 32 health
This item is the lifeblood of a strong Udyr. I don't see any build rush this item and i have no clue why people haven't realized its strength for this champion.
Armor pen, dmg, COOLDOWN REDUCTION, and an activation ability that will send your enemies to the grave wondering what just hit them.
the reason I stress the cooldown reduction is because of the fact that stance changing is what gives you dmg and survivability. having this and runes will allow you to do so much more often.
Boots of Speed
ah boots! when I see people running around with zerker greaves it makes me want to cry in a corner.
For me and I know a lot of other top players out there we will always make boots based off the enemy team makeup. Ninja Tabi for a majority AD team and Mercury's Treads for stun, snare, and AP teams.
Now this item is a no brainer. you gain dmg, ap, as, ms, mana, hp, and a wonderful dps and slow proc.
This item rounds out the core build with great dmg and lifesteal. this item isn\'t completed in most games though.
If for some god awful reason you are in a game where you need more items there are plenty of dps options and i will leave them up to you to pick from.
Long Sword and Health Potion
first trip back is at 1272 gold building
The Brutalizer and Boots of Speed
(if you have the gold before going back on trip one finish your boots.)
now you should be able to start getting some kills.
Youmuu's Ghostblade is next and finish your boots if you haven't
(boots first if you don't have gold for both)
At this point in the game I don't go by trips. Basically you just head back when you have gold for the items you need and its a good time.
(don't go back to buy each piece if you don't need too. it will waste a lot of time.)
Phage is the most important part of the trinity to finish first. the slow, health, and dmg are very strong.
Now you can get either Sheen for more dmg or Zeal for the MS and AS depending on the game before you finish trinity.
Once this is done you should have no problems eating people and farming for your
Now I would like to take some time here and talk about why I don\'t use certain items.
Malady: This item is in almost every other build for udyr and is usually the first or one of the first items these people make. Why is it bad? the main reason I dislike this item so much on Udyr (and pretty much any hero) is the damage gain. Malady will BARELY give you any dps at all, by the time you finish a malady you could have a brutalizer and boots(and an extra 100+ gold). So basically, it is WAY too expensive, gives very little dmg, attack speed isn't needed due to your passive, and lifesteal is not strong at this point because you have no dmg from the item to make the lifesteal worth having. STARKS IS WAY BETTER!
Madred's Bloodrazor This item is for jungling period. the stats this item gives are just not congruous with the strengths of Udyr.
Innervating Locket If you get this item than you are tanking! this item will give you no dmg for a tiger build and once you have sheen and maxed out tiger and turtle you will not have to worry about mana. so by the time you get this item, you no longer need it!
You need to max turtle first so you aren't a squishy. very important!
first 4 levels are
Turtle -> Bear -> Turtle -> Tiger.
After this just do your priority
Turtle > Tiger > Bear > Phoenix
PROS AND CONS
Stronger chaser and runner
great single target dps
Requires you to have strong last hit skills to farm.
snares and stuns will annoy you to all end
Like i said before Udyr requires a lot of last hit experience to farm well. I am for 75 creep kills before 15 mins generally and I count champ kills as 10.
I will also post a video of early game lane farming later on.
I wanted to get the basis of this build down now and update it later with MUCH more info on how to play. also i will be recording some game play so you can see first hand how to move through each phase of the game.
