LoL Summoner Spell: Smite

Smite

Introduction

I've played over 100 games with Master Yi and would consider him my favourite champion in the game easily. There are only these items selected as there can be a lot of variation in item choices for Master Yi. More information in the Items Section.

Pros / Cons

Pros

- Incredibly stronger jungler and counter jungler and start wherever he chooses and can make any variation to his routes that he wants.

- Able to take turrets in a matter of seconds

- Scales well into late game and is able to destroy teams if he is not CC'd and focused.

Cons

- Unable to team fight efficiently due to his low survival rate

- Has no CC so is in constant need of buffs

Runes

For Runes I take Armour Penetration Quintessences in order to cover the Armour on minions for optimum jungling speed. My Red's and Blue's are Attack Speed in order to once again give jungling speed and for taking less damage in the jungling giving stronger early game counter jungling and ganking. For Yellow's I take Flat Armour in order to once again give that stronger early game jungling.

Of course there are multiple options for runes for Master Yi and these may not be the best runes but I consider these to give you the best control of both sides of the jungle.

Masteries

21/0/9 Are the standard Masteries for jungling on Master Yi but it is up to you in order to compensate what you think is necessary for your play style.

Skill Sequence

For skills there are two main skills that will be maxed 1st and 2nd. These are Alpha Strike and Wuju Style. For choosing which you want to max 1st and 2nd will once again be totally up to your play style. Maxing Alpha strike 1st will give you a faster jungle clear and minion kills meaning you get more gold faster without sacrificing too much ganking power. Maxing Wuju Style 1st will give you stronger ganks but you will lose a lot of farm potential out of it which could cause your game to take a lot longer to get to the point of being "unstoppable"

Summoner Spells

For Summoner Spells there are multiple options. Obviously Smite will be one of your two summoners for clearing the jungle fast and for taking/stealing buffs, dragons and barons.

There are what I consider 3 other viable options for your second summoner slot.

Ghost - Overall I like to take ghost because of its synergy with ghostblade activate and your ultimate giving you insane movement speed with only rank 1 boots which gives you an incredibly strong gank. This is also very noticable for escaping by popping ghost, ghostblade and your ultimate you are un-catchable and will escape with ease.

Flash - Flash is used in order to get that faster gank with a quicker gap closer and for jumping walls in order to efficently dominate people. As stated before ghost is my personal preference but flash is a completely viable option for the second summoner.

Exhaust - Exhaust can be a good option for guaranteeing kills on lanes but also for escaping from 1 person but I personally think that ghost or flash is a much better option for that second summoner slot.

Creeping / Jungling

Master Yi is an incredibly strong jungler due to his ability to counter jungle efficiently and change his route however he wants to. Master Yi has in my opinion 3 options of how to start off his jungle.

All Routes start with Cloth Armour + 5 hp potions

Route 1 & 2 Start with Q
Route 3 Start with E

Route 1 - Counter-Jungling Route

This is my personal preference for jungling with Master Yi.

I will start at the enemy double golems and then take their wraiths and follow up with wolves -> blue -> wraiths -> doubles then recalling and getting a long sword.

This will only work if you know that their jungler will start at blue and make sure to check the bushes in order to make sure that no one from the opposing team is checking their wraiths or double golems.

If they are a jungler that starts at double golems then take

their wraiths then your wolves -> wraiths -> doubles.

this will give you enough gold in order to purchase a long sword and from there you can go to your blue and do a standard clear or even go back into their jungle to try to take some smaller camps again or even attempt to catch them at their red.

And if they start at wraiths then a similar approach only starting at their double golems.

Route 2 - Own Jungle Non Counter-Jungle

Doubles -> Wraiths -> Wolves -> Blue -> Recall then a full clear from doubles to wolves getting you 5 at 5minutes.

Route 3 - Own Jungle Non Counter-Jungle

Master Yi can start at blue buff but I consider this stupid due to the fact you can just go take some of their jungle and dominate their jungler. However to start at blue buff you need to start with Wuju Style then do a basic clear through to doubles and meditating constantly in order to get a level 4 gank at one of the lanes.

Items

Master Yi has multiple Viable items.

Wriggles Lantern, Youmuu's Ghostblade, Infinity Edge, Blood Thirster, Black Cleaver, Atma's Impaler, Warmog's Armour, Frozen Mallet, Madred's Bloodrazor, Phantom Dancer, Banshees Veil, Berserker's Greaves, Mercury's Treads

What I personally consider core items for Yi is wriggles Lantern and Youmuu's Ghostblade.

I normally due to the meta game go into a tanky build by getting a Warmog's and Atma's and then whatever I feel is needed and sell my wriggles off at the end. Normally you can achieve the same damage output as a DPS build but also obtain the 3.5k-4k hp giving you that good survival for team fights which gives you the ability to team fight rather then just push the entire game.

I will go into detail about how to choose between items for Master Yi but as I stated previously it all comes down to your own preferences.

Youmuu's Ghostblade - This is definitely a core item for Yi and normally most melee champions. Ghostblade is such a strong item and will give you all the damage output you need in order to destroy people. If you had to choose between a ghostblade and Infinity Edge early on always get the ghostblade.

Boots

Mercury's Treads or Berserker's Greaves - I personally play Yi as a bursty assassin so except for jungling and sustainability I find Berserker's Greaves almost worthless unless you are going completely glass cannon into which they can be a very strong item. In order to choose between these two options you need to look at their team. Ask yourself two questions. Do they have much CC? and How much of their damage is Magic? Asking yourself these two questions will tell you which boots would be better to build for this game.

Jungling items

Wriggle's Lantern or Madred's Bloodrazor - Madred's Razor will always be built so then you need to decide which you would prefer to build your razor into, a wriggles or bloodrazor. For choosing between these items you need to firstly look at your opponents team and see how many HP stacking champions they have on their team. If they have many you may consider going into the madred's bloodrazor in order to try to drop their HP faster and the attack speed from it is always nice for taking towers. The only problem with bloodrazor is it's cost where there are similar priced items which are stronger such as Infinity Edge. It's only in a rare occasion that I will build a bloodrazor over a wriggles. Wriggles is a genuinely strong item and lowers the cost you need to spend on wards and is incredibly cost effective giving you the faster jungle clears and the lifesteal required to stay at full HP from when you obtain it. In the end the choice between these two items is going to come down to your personal preference.

Defensive Items

I will pick up multiple of these as Yi is so squishy and I will normally have two or three of these items in most games

Atma's Impaler - Normally only viable if combined with a Warmogs or Frozen Mallet due to Yi's low base health. This with the wriggles will bring you up to 60% physical damage reduction giving you good sustainability against Physcial damage outputs.

Frozen Mallet - If you find on your team you are needing to give up your reds in order to benefit your team more consider a phage early on. This will give you good survivability even with only 225 HP on it and also gives you that little boost to attack damage. Once made into a Frozen Mallet you have infinite slows and 700 HP which used with an Atma's Impaler will give you an extra 14 attack damage which may not sound like much but you are getting good survivability against burst from it which could result in your opponents having to blow too much onto you and the rest of your team can just take them down.

Warmog's Armour - This is an amazing item for survivability and almost built in every one of my games now due to the near 1.5k HP it gives almost doubling Yi's health. Once again this item will help to stop busrt damage and will give you that edge in team fights.

Banshee's Veil - Only build this if you aren't building a Frozen Mallet and dont have Mercury's Treads or their team has a lerge majority of Magic damage or you really want that spell shield. With only Mercury's treads you have about 40% Magic resistance and if stacked with a Frozen Mallet and Warmog's there is absolutely no need for Banshee's As you will have 4k+ hp and will be able to survive any magic burst unless their magic damage outputs are fed.

Filling Those Last Slots

From here its heading into end game and most of the time wont reach this point and be buying these items. If it does get this far though and you have built three defensive items then you may consider selling off your wriggles for one of these aggressive endgame items.

Infinity's Edge - This is by far my preference for an endgame aggrssive item as it just tops off your damage output with the increased critical damage giving you that extra boost to almost instagib even tanks with your ghostblade active.

Black Cleaver - I personally feel that this item isn't necessary as the Armour Penetration is only needed from it if their squishies have built a large amount of armour which means they will be lacking damage output anyway so its not going to make a large amount of difference.

Bloodthirster - The Lifesteal is very nice at 25% but only really needed if you are going glass cannon so I generally avoid this item as well because of Infinity's Edge giving a much larger amount of damage output then a Bloodthrister.

Phantom Dancer - For Phantom Dancers I fell that the movement speed in unnecessary so generally another item I avoid because you get enough attack speed from your ultimate and ghostblade active anyway so why go for more attack speed when you can just nuke someone down significantly faster?

In the end your items should look something like this
    Berserker's Greaves or Mercury's Treads

    Youmuu's Ghostblade

Wriggles Lantern or Madred's Bloodrazor unless you have sold the wriggles late game for one of the listed end game items.

Banshee's Veil, Warmog's, Frozen Mallet or Atma's Impaler

Banshee's Veil, Warmog's, Frozen Mallet or Atma's Impaler

Banshee's Veil, Warmog's, Frozen Mallet or Atma's Impaler or Other end game item

Summary

All in all this is only my opinion of how to build Master Yi but there are multiple ways to do it but I feel that this is the strongest way to play him during this current meta game
