As Blitzcrank, you do not want to miss grabs. Not trying to grab at all is much better than missing a grab. Why you ask ? Blitzcrank's grab creates pressure towards the adc. If you miss a grab, that pressure is gone. And good players will take advantage of this to initiate onto you.(LETS BE HONEST HE IS NOTHING WITHOUT GRAB PRE-6). Blitzcrank's playstyle is very bursty and he can turn ganks into kills with the manipulation of the turret. When a jungler ganks never fear to W towards your turret before flashing and attempting a grab. Most instances, it would be too fast for players to react, resulting in a hook and a likely kill or burn of flash. Never underestimate tower damage with a hook + E combo. Furthermore, if your AD gets intiated on, no do not pull the support away from your ad. Instead, head towards their ad and overdrive, knock them up and when they try to escape grab them. This is of course in the scenario where their support does not do damage. In cases like ap annie support,or ap karma support, cc their support while your ADC heads towards the safety of the tower. Try to save hook to hook greedy enemies to the tower for a free kill.

As a Blitzcrank support your essential task is to HIT GRABS. If you can't hit grabs you might as well be afk. There is a trick to hitting every grab, and it is aiming for 50% of the champion you'd like to hook (CYLTH) and 50% towards a direction. This way, if he tries to side step it will either end up in a grab or miss.
ALWAYS REMEMBER : NEVER risk immediately grabbing unless you cannot W to them to E them. In late game when there are team fights, do not overdrive to E them. Always bet on your life to grab. And FFS do not grab tanks,initiators or champs with great AOE like Vi,Renekton,Nasus,Karthus,etc.


Secret tip: I find playing with Boom Boom Blitzcrank easier, as it's hook hitbox is exactly same as the boxing glove unlike other skins where the fist is smaller than the actual hitbox.

Blitzcrank is exceptionally good at picking off squishy targets with his grab. This gives him the ability to make game changing plays. In team fights you NEVER want to hook bruisers or ap mids which are tanky and do aoe like swain,karthus or even Ori(with a shield shockwave your team could be decimated). SO DONT HOOK THOSE PEOPLE. Aim for squishies like Syndra/TF/ALL ADCS EVER. Try not to hook Mids with zhonya because it will just lead to a initiation opportunity for the enemy team. Furthermore, you would want to hit your ulti on as many targets as possible and as soon as possible ( idealy before enemy casters can cast spells). This allows your team a 2.5 second gap to destroy enemy casters/ etc. You can also use it to stop initiations. When an ally gets zed ulted, Just R knock-up, talisman to either disengage or re engage.
