Introduction

This build can work for Twisted Treeline or Summoner's Rift, but it is mainly oriented towards Twisted Treeline. I did add some minor survivability items and runes, but there is no flash or ghost spell and gaining AP is prioritized before Rylai's.

Runes

The AP and damage runes are there to activate both of Akali's passive abilities. The HP runes are there to give some survivability that will scale to all stages of the game since we won't be buying armor or hitpoint increasing items (with the exception of Rylai's scepter in mid or late game).

Items

Doran's shield may seem like an odd choice to start off, but I've found that it helps if you like to play agressively in the early phase so that you can keep harassing and stay in the lane longer without chugging tons of hitpoint potions. Eventually you will sell it when you are ready to buy the Giant's Belt that will give you more hitpoints and eventually scale up to Rylai's scepter. By that point you will have plenty of spell vamp from your hextech revolver and your passive, so the HP regen from the shield will no longer be required.

If you don't need the survivability, skip the Rylai's and get a Rageblade instead.

Summoner Spells

The reason this build has exhaust and ignite are easy to explain. For one, they have useful masteries on the offense tree. Secondly, it gives you an answer to every potential target. For example, without ignite you wouldn't be able to bring down Mundo very easily. Without exhaust, you wouldn't be able to bring down DPS champs like Master Yi very easily.

Exhaust also helps keep them from making it back to their turret and it sometimes works as a getaway spell when you get in over your head. Since this build is oriented for twisted treeline, sometimes it's enough to slow one person. For summoner's rift, obviously, it's less effective.

Farming

Once you get the crescent slash, farming becomes very quick and easy. If you are hanging back from a teamfight and none of the enemies wants to stick their neck out, just go push a tower, or jungle, or farm minions nearby. Once the action atarts picking up again, head back to the fray and pick up some champ kills and wipe them out one by one.
