Start
|
Since your early game isn't the strongest it is best to start out with a Doran's Ring and a Health Potion for some good survivability.

Early Game
|
|
Rush one of these items. Athene's Unholy Grail is a safer option and is generally better, but when you're ahead you can also go for Morellonomicon.
|
Boots
|
|
Usually Ionian Boots of Lucidity are the best option since you'll get 40% CDR (45% with the
Intelligence
mastery) which helps a lot on AP Blitz. However, you can also go for Mercury's Treads if you're up against someone with a lot of CC (like Morgana) or an AP nuker (like LeBlanc).

Mid Game
|
|
Rod of Ages is a great item overall for AP Blitz as it gives him a great mix of offensive and defensive stats (don't forget that mana adds to his Mana Barrier). Lich Bane is great to add power to your Rocket Grab- Power Fist- Static Field combo as it not just gives ability power but also empowers your basic attacks so you can follow up with Overdrive.

Late Game
The late game items really depend on what kind of team you're facing. Here are a few options that I think usually work the best with a short explenation:

Offensive

|
Obviously Rabadon's Deathcap is the best if you want an overall powerspike and absolutely nuke people with your ult. If you want more burst to your combo Luden's Tempest works great. The movement speed can also help to catch enemies off guard with a Rocket Grab from an unexpected position.

Anti-MR
|
|
Abyssal Mask is more of a utility option and is best used to help your team out if the enemy team has a lot of MR and your team is AP heavy. The Void Staff has the same function as Abyssal Mask except it is more usefull when your team isn't that AP heavy and they don't need the aura Abyssal Mask offers.

Utility
|
|
If you are being focused by the enemy assasin Zhonya's Hourglass is a good option; just use it's active right as they use their abilities and disengage or counterattack afterwards.

Other viable options
|
|
It is an option to go for Archangel's Staff (and later Seraph's Embrace) instead of Athene's Unholy Grail or Morellonomicon to take advantage of it's massive scaling. Due to your passive Mana Barrier and the insane amount of mana it grants you'll pretty much have a second health bar as long as it is up. Keep in mind though that your early game will be even worse than it already is since Archangel's Staff is expensive and Tear of the Goddess takes a while to stack. For this reason, take Tear of the Goddess instead of Doran's Ring to get Seraph's Embrace as early as possible.
