Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
This is my first build i've published on mobafire but i hope it will also be my best. Anivia is one of the best midlane characters in the game atm and has high burst while using relatively little amounts of ap. When you do give her large amounts of ap the result can be downright scary. What i'm going to show you is how i build her and why.
Pros / Cons
high early game survivability
best farmer in the game after lvl 6
the bird is the word
slow movement speed
slow farming until lvl 6
2/3 of anivia's biggest shortcomings are addressed through the runes
low starting hp
other possible options would be more ap runes, more mana regeneration runes, or movement speed quintescences. the marks should be magic pen due to the fact that your opponents will be stacking mr by midgame.
the masteries i focus more towards mana fixing and ap scaling. your masteries will be your only source of ap until midgame, which really isn't a problem because frostbite scales so well without ap in early game.
if someone else wants mid you tell them to f themselves and take it anyway, special exceptions would be against champions who excel at a range beyond yours such as caitlyn or kogmaw, and be especially wary around mids that can silence such as kass or leblanc. now with that said, since your damage scaling in the beginning is more towards skill scaling than ap scaling it is more beneficial to not even touch it until you don't have an option to. especially since by about the time you'll need to take it is roughly the same time that the laning phase ends.
since anivia has horrible movement speed (which is dumb considering she's a bird...) you need flash to help coordinate you offensively and defensively. nothing is more of a morale breaker than a flash kill.
everyone knows how beneficial ignite is whether it's against that pesky voli passive to the broken ult of mundo to the counter of the summoner spell heal to... point is not only is it another offensive spell but it is a double threat to champs that heal or need to heal. if you don't know the power of this spell it shows you haven't been using it enough.
for the longest time i've been using clarity but due to the new chalice i'ce been obtaining the blue chalice asap thus negating my need for clarity.
ghost has potential since the bird is slow. really slow.
the other spells are kind of lackluster in comparison to the options above
i'll list the items i use with my reasoning in the order i purchase them.
meki pendant+health pots
it provides early game mana regen plus builds into the chalice which you will be purchasing next. if you use clarity by the saphire crystal instead.
chalice of harmony
this will help ensure your mana issue are at a minimum. i get this if i'm not using clarity. if you decide to use clarity start building the catalyst.
time to get some mobility and magic pen which will be amazingly helpful since your ap is rather unimpressive atm
rod of ages
now that the mana issues are almost finished,we can focus on ap. RoA is our next item on the list for survivability, more mana, and a large chunk of ap.
now that your opponents are scared and hesitant about the prospect of being near you let alone facing you in combat, you need to put the icing on the cake with a happy hat. this item lets bombs become nukes. just remember to keep your distance because you will be focused by now. so do your best to stay with your team and let them clean up your mess if you get egged.
athene's unholy grail
let's face it. when this item was created it was made intentionally for anivia. i'm not joking look at the stats it produces and tell me which other char benefits more than anivia. it has a huge amount of ap, mr, cdr, and eradicates mana problems. seriously give me an example of who benefits more from this item
here's where things get tricky as far as item selection, you can go for more survivability or more damage. depending on the situation you can choose abyssal sceptre, zhonya's hourglass, or morello's evil tome. for the most part i go with the tome mainly for the cdr if you can't get blue golem buff. but if you're constantly being focused and you're getting no help from your team, by all means grab an hourglass or a sceptre. it's funny how much time they have to waste to kill you if you activate the hourglass and the magic resistance reduction from the sceptre make them both the best bets for survivability as far as anivia is concerned. if the opponents keep stacking mr, get void staff to counter. if you keep getting targeted by the anticarries grab a banshee's veil.
last few pieces of advice i can give you.
don't do anything with the wall unless it's necessary for an ambush, scouting some bushes, running away, or locking someone in the dragon or baron pits. most of the time it can really screw you over, especially if you're unused to using it. and keep in mind some characters can still go through, ie trynd with his spinny slash thing, or jax jumping over it, or any character that can flash or innate flash.
your e can work with the spells of other characters, such as sejuani, Ashe's arrows, nunu's iceball, or any caster with rylei's or melee with phage or frozen mallet. they are still chilled and your e doesn't care who chilled them. equipping rylei's does not activate frostbite.
use flash to your advantage as much as possible, it's the only mobility you really have.
early game don't be afraid to let them towerdive you. your egg is the best midlane passive for a reason, and it will show if the jungler or the other mid gets greedy.
get blue as much as you can, jungler needs it in the very beginning, but after that grab it as often as possible regardless of what phase of the game it is. cdr is your friend especially considering you have none in the beginning.
you have low speed, i can't stress this enough, so when you want to gank one of the other lanes know exactly where the other mid is at all times and where everyone else on the other team is as much as you can before you make a decision. you don't want to gank and lose your turret in the process, or push another lane just to be ganked by the jungler.
