Master Yisus

greater mark of hybrid penetration

Hello fellow summoners and welcome to my first guide! In this guide I will be covering a wide variety of basic and advanced knowledge of Master Yi to the best of my ability and how he has been affected by the 5.22 patch as well as jungling and ganking.

With the rework of both Guinsoo's Rageblade and Hextech Gunblade, AP Master Yi is allowed a second coming. These on-hit items as well as a 3rd tier Enchantment: Devourer synergize well with Master Yi because of his heavy focus in auto attacks. Keep in mind this guide is still in development and information will be added soon.

Edit: 11/15/15 Added Ganking section

TABLE OF CONTENTS:
PROS / CONS
Pros

+ High AoE damage with Alpha Strike and Guinsoo's Rageblade
+ Meditate can be used to heal or reduce heavy damage
+ Easy turret dives with Alpha Strike dodge and Meditate
+ Alpha Strike can be used as a gap closer
+ Can chase down enemies easily with Highlander
+ Refreshable Cooldowns from Highlander passive

Cons
- Highly susceptible to CC
- No crowd control in his kit
- Very squishy
- Meditate healing requires up to 4 second channeling

The most crucial mastery here is the Fervor of Battle which synergizes well with Master Yi. This Keystone Mastery stacks up to 10 times on-hit and provides 1-8 bonus physical damage per stack based on level.

Utilizing Alpha Strike correctly is what separates the men from the Wuju masters. In most cases, Alpha Strike should be used to dodge crowd control and as a gap closer. Practice dodging skills and turret shots with Alpha Strike to become a true Wuju Master.

This is also another skill which can be used to separate the Padawans from the Jedi Masters. Apart from simply healing, Meditate can be used to reduce incoming damage such as enemy ultimates or turret shots.

Activating this skill at crucial times can be the difference between life or death, victory or defeat. Wuju Style can be used to take down enemy tanks with its AD scaling true damage on-hit, however it's important to note that its passive is disabled on cooldown. Use this skill wisely.

This skill is what allows great Master Yi players to carry and essentially outplay enemies when he's outnumbered. Aside from the face value of Highlander granting bonus movement and attack speed, the passive enables 70% reduced cooldowns on champion kills and assists. This means more dodging and damage with Alpha Strike, reducing more damage with Meditate, and more damage with Wuju Style.

Item Sequence

Skirmisher's Sabre - Devourer 2450
Guinsoo's Rageblade 3000
Hextech Gunblade 3000
Nashor's Tooth 3000
Wit's End 2800
Berserker's Greaves - Furor 1550

This is what makes AP Master Yi tick and is always the first item you should rush. When this item is sated, it allows every second auto attack to trigger on-hit damage twice.

The rework to Guinsoo's Rageblade allowed it to be viable as a core item for Master Yi. This synergizes well with a Skirmisher's Sabre - Devourer because of the on-hit effcts.

This item in tandem with Guinsoo's Rageblade was made for AP Master Yi as it heals for 15% of damage done from ALL sources. This includes the AOE on-hit magic damage from Guinsoo's Rageblade.

More on-hit damage that scales with AP will allow for more damage per second.

Even MORE damage, however it's flat damage compared to Nashor's Tooth scaling AP damage. Thus this allows for some options of a last item:

This item can be utilized to increase AP for more healing on Meditate's AP scaling as well as damage on Nashor's Tooth.

If you're facing a team with heavy CC and need to dodge often in team fights, this may be the item for you. Other times you may not be able to auto attack fast enough to get Alpha Strike off cooldown to dodge skills.

Faster auto attacking will allow for more on-hit effects thus more damage per second.

If you're going up against a heavy CC team, this will help with survivability in team fights.

JUNGLING / GANKING

BLUE SIDE
Start off at the Krug camp and make sure to get a hard leash. After you’re done, level up your E Wuju Style. >
Next, move onto the Raptor camp. Auto attack a small raptor then Q. Proceed to kill the small raptors first. > Pop a potion or two and move onto Rift Scuttler for free sustain since you don't have Meditate yet.

If mid or bot is pushed in, you can gank. Or if you feel confident, invade and smite. >
Move onto Red Brambleback . Auto attack then Q and proceed to late smite to secure the buff. >
Now you can either back or use Meditate and go to clear top side jungle.

PURPLE SIDE
Starting from the purple side would be similar: (starting bot side)
Gromp > Wolves > Rift Scuttler > invade/gank > Blue Sentinel (smite) > ?

OTHER JUNGLING TIPS
After you build your Enchantment: Devourer, make sure to prioritize attaining dragon and rift scuttler as they give +5 and +2 stacks respectively.

GANKING
Tanky: Use your Hextech Gunblade active to slow and ramp up stacks on Fervor of Battle and Guinsoo's Rageblade. Use Smite and Wuju Style together for extra damage. If you work in unison with your laner, you won't usually need to use Highlander.

Hard CC: Master Yi is completely shut down with any hard cc because he has no range, thus it is imperative to be able to dodge these. In this case, utilize Alpha Strike only to dodge enemy crowd control for example from Lux Illumination and Morgana Dark Binding.

Bursty: Just as before, use Alpha Strike to dodge skill shots and Meditate to reduce damage from ultimate skills such as Death Mark from Zed.

Soft CC: Any kind of slows are basically irrelevant to Master Yi as his Highlander skill makes him invulnerable to slows. However this still leaves him especially prone to blinds and somewhat vulnerable to silences. If need be, use Meditate in these situations.

Mobile: Champions that have easy escapes such as Zed with Living Shadow or Ezreal with Arcane Shift you should wait until after they use their blink to initiate a gank. If not, if you time Alpha Strike correctly, you can blink with them.
