Intro

Following a recent patch Mordekaiser has received quite a revision. As a result many of his past builds are a bit obsolete. These changes also allow for a previously taboo build strategy, AP Morde. Be aware that when playing AP Morde you need to inform your team that you are NOT a tank and you should try and get a mid or solo lane.

Early game Morde plays out pretty much identical to pre-patch early game. Just harass like crazy. His mid and late game are where the biggest changes are seen. Pre-patch Morde's attack scaling allowed him to build as a pure tank and still dish out the hurt now he is a bit squishier. You primary focus mid game is to gank kill your opponents in the other lanes using their ghost to damage the turret as you run back to mid. Do this until you have a decent amount of Soul Stealer stacks or until your opponents begin to gank you.

Once the enemy team realizes that you can do quite a bit of damage and that you are a rather squishy they will focus fire you. At this point team fights will be starting. In a team fight your role is that of a melee DPS. Remember not to get too carried away and over estimate your survivability YOU ARE NOT A TANK!

Runes

Flat health Quints give you a much needed boost to health
Magic penetration Marks help your ability's damage
Regeneration Glyphs or health glyphs whatever you prefer
Magic resist seals are more or less standard these days

Items

This item build is what I have been using with the new Morde.

Tome and potion helps your damage output early and put you a step closer to getting a soul stealer, but Doran's Shield and a potion also works if you're concerned about your survivability.
Sorcs shoes add more penetration for your abilities
Spirit Visage is cheap and early CD reduction the 20% bonus to healing helps a lot too.
At this point you should aim for more health with a giant's belt and follow it up with a crystal scepter for some much needed slow effects
From here you should start building either Randuin's Omen of the Hextec Gunblabe. Whichever one you make first is entirely up to you

The idea is to give Morde good survivability and a few slows to help out in ganks and team fights. The trio of Gunblade, Crystal Scepter and Randuin's Omen should fix much of Morde's CC problems.

If you reach a point in late game where you have a bunch of extra money then consider selling your spirit visage for an Abyssal Staff or a Force of Nature if you hare having survivability issues. If you still want max CD reduction at this point then go grab blue buff.

One more note. If you find yourself Losing your stacks of Soul Stealer and you have money to spare try buying a Zhonya's Ring.
