Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Start with a Doran's Ring, and sell if later to make space. Depending on how the match goes you may want to switch up the order. This is a good balance of Tank, AP damage output, and support from the AP. With this build, Taric also becomes a good initiator able to start the fight, take the hits, get kills, and last to its entirety.
One item not listed that may want to be considered is Force of Nature. With its speed boost + Health regen + magic resist, it is a great item for Taric to have. Consider switching it for Guardians if you are not too worried about dieing.
Taric can solo quite well, but to do so one must start with the W, then Q, then the stun. This keeps you alive longer and provides longer periods of time without having to Base. When you have a partner, really use that long stun. Early game is crucial to the overall performance of the match and with starting a fight with the stun then your partners ignite an enemy will easily fall.
Something to watch out for when playing Taric, especially early game, are ranged champions hidden in bushes. Early game Taric is not able to put out a whole lot of damage so if he runs too far out alone and gets ganked, even with his stun, he will be done for and without taking someone down with him, especially if there are two or more enemy champions on top of him.
Yes, Taric makes a decent support. With AP and cool down reduction runes and items, Taric can keep himself and his teammates alive even in the most chaotic of fights. If supporting, it would not be a bad idea to use Clarity (Taric's passive does restore a % of mana for every normal hit on minions so he does not need it but in a team fight, your teammates will be glad you have it) and Heal (clairvoyance as well). With his stun, Taric can easily escape a chasing enemy so ghost or flash may not be needed.
As with all champs, farming is essential to getting those key items faster. As a tank with 2 area damage abilities and a key stun, Taric gets many many assists and kills. So farming may not be as essential as it may be for a carry. You will be too however is not using clarity because even 5 minions restores alotta mana.
Pros / Cons
Early Game, Taric can help take down champs easily with the stun and can stay at the tower longer with his heal.
Late Game, Taric initiates those big fights with that stun with someone steps out a little too far and gets a surprisingly large amount of kills with his Ult (does heavy area damage and adds ad and ap to allies) and shatter to pick up kills when enemies cluster and are at lower health. Good last hits.
Early Game, Taric is easily killed if ganked or if he gets steps out too far alone. Does not have very high damage output.
Late Game, Taric ends up being a decent tank at best if not utilized correctly early game. Ends up not hitting hard enough, cant take big hits, etc. So if new to him or are having a bad day, play conservatively.
As Far as Runes go, AP, CD reduction, and Magic Pen are good ones. Unless you are expecting to seriously tank with Taric then I would say get more resist and armor and health. But his W add armor and health comes easily by items. The magic resist is a must however. It really can be the way you want it to be.
His newer Bloodstone skin is pretty legit......but the pink GO GO dance one is the best without a doubt. I love rocking that thing! and yes even in ranked matches! it needs a cape though, maybe a rainbow one....
