Short description

Hello,

This is a quick build of Garen that i thought i'd throw out there and see what people think about it. This build is trying to give health, resistances, damage and ability to CC a bit since the last part is what i feel Garen really lacks.

The CC in this build comes from the frozen mallet which slows a single target which helps you chase a lot better. Randuins also gives you a AOE slow.

The complete stats when this build is finished ingame is:

I wrote these here since i felt the amounts calculated by the site aren't quite spot on.

I have tested this build a few games and so far i feel it escalates nicely. You start off with a dorans shield which gives you a nice little boost to armor and health regeneration which nicely adds to your runes and passive.

You can go ahead and go straight for boots of swiftness next because garen really enjoys the speed boost this gives. From there you go spirit visage which plugs your hole in magic resistance nicely while giving you cooldown reduction and further boost to your health regeneration.

Next up is Atmas impaler that gives you crit chance that gives you bonus damage on judgement and also raises your attack damage based on your current amount of health. Spirit visage gave you a little health bonus already so this will work nicely for now. Keeps you a threat in the game when people notice you actually pack a punch and can't be ignored, and being a tank you really want people to hit on you instead of the carries.

Next up is frozen mallet which builds from phage and giants belt. Here you can choose if you need more health or more damage and CC. (The additional health ALSO gives you damage since you have atmas impaler utilizing that health now). Pick either one and later upgrade it to frozen mallet and nobody can escape you.

Last of we sell the dorans shield and get a randuins. Finished! And with a nice balance of defense, offense and CC amongst other nice little bonuses!


The main purpose of this build is to break from the norm that i have seen that is getting warmogs and then combining that with an atmas, or just going pure tank or whatever. Also i always felt that garen was in desperate need of a way of keeping people in place, hopefully the items in this build help in that aspect.

I will update this guide with additional information once i have some more games under my belt using the build and i can then analyze any flaws i can find.
