Welcome To AP SION
Hi! My name is Knuckle and this is my first guide on Mobafire. Being that I have ADD out the Wazoo, I have struggled over and over again searching for a champion who I not only was good at playing, but however one that I also enjoyed playing for multiple games in a row. All this changed when I happened upon my Undead Companion: SION. Before I start though, I would like to thank you for even reading the first paragraph! Please note that this build is meant for normal Q and not ranked matches, however if you try it in ranked, let me know how you did! Anyways, enjoy the rest of the guide as that is where all the good stuff is!
Sion is one hell of a fun champion to play as. He is very versatile as being able to run either AD or AP because of his unique skill combinations. Like any normal LOL player, I naturally did my research across several guides on how to maximize his potential. Although AD Sion is very viable, and late game unstoppable, I immediately fell in love with the 1:1 Ratio on his Stun and Shield.
Sion's sweet AP ratios gives him the ability to deal a **** load of damage, while also being able to tank out harassment and tower hits with his overpowered shield.
:::RETAINER::: For those of you who just look at the item build and base a guide off of that, please don't down vote because you have a viable alternative to an item or two. I have had remarkable success with this build and as always am more than happy to receive any suggestions or constructive criticism to hopefully optimize this guides potential. However, being that this is a guide, I would hope that you would judge me more by the gameplay section and the overall appearance of the guide, rather than having an alternate opinion on an item or two. Everyone has their favorite items, and I would hope that you would try out the item set as it isn't theory crafted, but rather proven to be very successful. Thank you again for taking the time to read, and I hope you enjoy the guide!
As far as Runes go, I typically run:
Greater Marks of Insight: Magic Pen to make your spells hit extremely hard.
Greater Seals of Replenishment: Mana Regen allows for longer laning phase early game and saves your *** when you desperately need your shield to be up before you get nuked by a Tibbers!
Greater Glyphs of Focus: Reduced Cooldowns? Whats not to like? Great on every champion!
Greater Quintessence of Potency: Early Game AP wrecks with harassing.
Typical 9|0|21 for Max Cooldowns, 15% Magic Pen, and Utility Masteries make you more versatile and allow you to spam clarity more for yourself and your allies.
Sorc Boots/Mercs Boots: I choose Sorc more often than not because it gives you more MRes reduction and allows you to hit harder against champions than flat AP does late game. But, if the other team has a lot of CC, Take Mercs. The extra damage isn't worth your life, regardless of how many escapes Sion may have.
Haunting Guise: I get Haunting Guise early as it is rather inexpensive for flat MRes reduction, AP and health. If you feel like you don't need this early, go ahead and skip right to Morellos.
Morellos Evil Tome: Next is Morellos because it gives you a quick way to get AP for damage, Cooldown Reduction which allows you to stun more and shield more, and whos going to complain about more mana regen? This item allows you to hit harder and more often.
Abyssal Scepter: Great for reducing nearby MRes, this is the only way you can drop enemy Mres below 0. Prepare to deal over true damage to da squishies!
Rabadon's Deathcap: AP, AP and even more AP. once you get this item, its pretty much GG. Your stuns take out half their health bar and your shield takes out the rest.
Lichbane: Most games end by now, but for your last item grab a Lichbane as it will deal massive amounts of damage when you choose to use it with your skills
Shield, auto attack, Stun, auto attack. Plus when you have your ult up late game, it will help you regain some of that lost health and you will take down towers like a master yi on steroids!
Level up your W first as it not only deals damage, but also protects you from ranged hitters. Plus around its skill levels 4-5, You can DECIMATE ENTIRE MINION WAVES. Sion is a serious pusher, so your creep score should never be low.
When you cant level your W grab your Q
Get a Point in Enrage early to start building up some of your massive health
Around end game, you will feel tanky because your enrage gave you some health and your shield cant be penetrated easily.
Your ultimate is really more AD centered, however late game it is a great way to push towers and regain some health to yourself and to your allies
Clarity: Early game saves your *** more than once. No one likes being OOM. so keep this from happening with clarity. If your trigger happy with your W and your Q, then make sure to lane with an ally who has Clarity as well, and between the two of you, you should never be OOM no matter how often you spam your abilities.
Flash/Ghost I prefer Flash to jump in, hit with my stun, and then explode in their face. Its a great way to get into position and to escape possible ganks. Ghost is good if you feel like your going to be chasing more though, as it has a shorter cooldown and a longer duration.
Teleport, Clairvoyance, Fortify and lately I have found that even Rally work well with Sion if you feel you do not need Clarity for whatever reason. I however prefer Clarity as I can deal more damage in a shorter period of time. However, to each his own :)
After you get the Core Build out of the way, you still have some spaces after you sell your Doran's.
At this point in the game, its no longer a fact of sticking to a certain item build, but rather adapting to their team comp. Typically, I go with Warmogs, Rlyais Crystal Scepter, or even Atmas if you want some more damage.
Doubling up on Rabs gives you an extra 200 ap if your like me and want more damage and more shield tho ;)
Also if your good at keeping up with your Item Actives, Deathfire Grasp gives you another HUGE bonus to your Spike, when used with Morellos, you should be spamming your abilities nonstop
When Laning, use the bushes to hide the fact that your activating your shield. It will instill utter terror in them, as they will never truly know when you might just pop out, stun them and explode in their faces! This is an excellent way to harass and if you have your ad carry with you, probably even net early kills.
HIT AND RUN! Use Guerrilla Tactics to your advantage!!!! Run In, Stun, Pop Your Shield and Run Out. You will take out at least half their health and suffer none to yourself.
DONT GO INTO BATTLE FIRST!!! you will be focused and you will die, regardless of how much your shield saves your ***. Be smart, stay behind your tank, then initiate! Once you net your team a couple kills as a result of your stun, they will always try and focus you. If you feel like you are dying often, dont worry, it means that they arent hitting your carry, and they will love you for it :)
AIM FOR THE CARRIES!!! they are often the ones who deal the most damage and die the quickest. Immobilize them with your stun, and save an ally's life because you interrupted the carry's combo, then rape the carry and its GG. They will be under leveled and you will be feared.
Why AP vs Defensive items?
There's no denying that Warmogs works fantastically on Sion, if you feel like you need some extra surviability, grab it. However, I feel that the extra AP gained from offensive items, buffs your shield more than a couple hit points. The 1:1 ratio on it means that if you have 400 AP, you will soak up 700 damage before you even lose a shred of health. Plus it means that you will also deal 700 damage if you don't need to have it up and wanna explode it in some unfortunate champions face! Besides, your enrage has already netted you at least 300 health with the average creep score, so you should be alright :)
Summary: More AP= More Damage and more Surviablility with Sion... kinda OP right?
Press W.... Run into the Middle of a Creep Wave between the caster minions and the melee minions... Press W... BOOM!!!!!!!
You have gained >150 Gld and can move on to the next set of victims!
THINGS TO SAY WHILE PLAYING SION!
Killed em with your shield? just say "Boom." or "Hasta La Vista Baby."
Got em down to 1 health and they run back to their fountain crying and hoping that your not ghosting them down?? say something like: "I bet that hurt..." or "Where ya goin? I'm not done yet!"
Killed em while they were stunned? say something like: "So Annie, what happened? Why didn't you fight back?" or "You are the weakest link... GOODBYE!"
You have a cocky *** ally who think they knows it all and is ragin like a Tryndamere on steroids? tell em: "DONT BE SUCH A BONE HEAD" or :Hate bone, connected to, the axe bone, connected to YOUR FACE BONE!"
LAST BUT NOT LEAST...
REMEMBER TO HAVE FUN!!!
at the end of the day, its just a game, and it wont change anything if you cry and moan like a French maid Nidalee in bed, **** happens lol get over it! Just play and remember that life goes on, so its ok if you died once or twice early game, Sion is a very forgiving character and has a tendency to come back late game and wreck face!
Finally, remember that SION DOES NOT SURRENDER. No matter how many towers you lost, this game has a way of having face rolled teams make epic comebacks, and those are the games that you will never forget :)
