The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Here I'm going to show what I have changed in the build or what happened to Brand or anything that affects Brand in any way.
26-09-2011: Found out that starting with boots of speed, then going for 2-3 Dorans rings would be better. Also changed some of the items and added some more details about my item build.
27-09-2011: Changes to Brand in the Riven patch
-Conflagration range reduced to 625 from 675
This will make it a bit more risky for you to use it, but not too much. Just beware of your surroundings
-Pillar of Flame damage reduced to 75/120/165/210/255 from 80/125/170/215/260
5 damage? HUGE NERF!!! No just kidding this could be a lot worse, so not really a problem
Hello everyone who might see this build!
This build is about my favorite AP carry, Brand. Brand gets an A in 1 thing. Doing insane damage. Unlike most other AP guys they're either focussed on either singetarget or AoE damge, but Brand have both. He is slightly focussed on AoE with his ultimate, but he can still do insane singletarget damage. The reason why i play Brand and like it very much is that he is combobased. He can use one combo that is focussed on getting one target down or use another and then take down 2-3 targets. But enough of that lets get started with the real build.
Greater Mark of Insight - Pretty standard, just to help chew through the enemy teams magic resist.
Greater Seal of Replenishment - Brand is mana hungry, no doubt about that. I'm not saying that this will make up for it, but it will help a lot on your regeneration. Ofcourse if you spam your abilities you will be OoM a lot of times making you more attractive to kill or harass since you can't counter harass them.
Greater Glyph of Force - More AP more damage. And Brand scales really well with AP, so the more the better. Also as you start with boots, some early AP is really good.
Greater Quintensence of Potency - As said more AP more damage
Deadliness - Just a little help on getting last hits. Since I don't want cripple or plentiful bounty I'm just taking this
Archmage's savvy - Extra AP always nice
Sorcery - As said before, cooldowns is a problem on Brand. This and the glyphs will help on it.
Archaic knowledge - This is percent magic penetration. What's is it that makes this really nice? Answer is tanks. Tanks usually have high amounts of armor and magic resist, but with percent magic penetration it will help a lot. I don't know if it's your percent penetration or flat penetration that comes first but whatever this is really nice
Defence - No points here. You're going to deal damage, not to tank
Good Hands - You will die at some point. The less time=better chance of saving a tower or a teammate etc.
Perseverance - More regeneration the better
Awareness - Your AP carry will Always go mid. Always. And the faster you gain levels the better. If you play against a guy that don't have awareness he will have problems when fighting Brand. When Brand is level 3 he can get a kill. I'll explain more about this later. But the faster you level the better
Expanded mind - Only 1 point here because you will need the regeneration more than more mana
Meditation - GIMME MOAR REGENERATION. Here you go.
Utility mastery - Your jungler will most likely give you the blue buff so get this to make it last longer. You can take 2 points in this, but i don't think it's necesarry
Quickness - Brand walks pretty slowly so this will help him a lot
Blink of an eye - More flash=more crazy stuff
Intelligence - More CD reduction
Presence of the master - More ignite and flash not so much to say about this
THere are other viable builds, but I like this the most and i suggest you to use this
Boots of speed + 3 health pots - Gives you some nice movement and if you get low the health pots will help a lot
Dorans rings - Now this is interesting. Why don't i start with it? Because I don't know how good he/she I'm going to play against is. Therefore in the first levels you can decide if youre going to buy 2 or 3 rings. If it's going good it's 2 and if its not going too good then it's 3
Sorceres shoes - (Almost) every AP carrys best choice, offering the best you can get from boots. Cooldown reduction boots are nice too, but I feel more likely to get some magic penetration
Hextech Revolver - Heals FTW! Spell vamp is the life steal of abilities for those who doesnt know. Really awesome for Brand because of his massive damage output. It will heal you a lot just with normal burst. Try doing the Pillar of Flame+Conflagration on minions, then you'll see what i mean
Rabadon's Deathcap - This will give you realy much AP. As usual with AP making you hurt like hell
Rylai's Crystal Scepter - Now this is interesting. It slows, gives AP and HP. What more do you want from items? Infinite AP ofcourse, but that you can't get. This is a really awesome item for Brand because he is squishy so it help a lot and it makes you damage more.
Now this your CORE item build. I'm not saying that you shouldn't get any more items, ofcourse you shall, but your other items gonna depend on a lot of things, which I will be talking about in the next chapter.
These items are defined by who you play against and how you're doing
Void staff - This you should get on any AP carry against the tanks. It will make them having a lot less Magic resist. Along with Mastery you will have 55% magic penetration. This will make those bastards have harder to tank you. But do only choose this if they're building a lot of Magic resist.
Zhonya's Hourglass - This is really nice item. Why? It gives you some armor, some AP and it give you invunerablilty for a short time. This is really nice for Brand because when you're done with your combo, guess what you can do. Activate this or die. But even thou it's a good item i think you should only take this if you're playing against an AD carry that is being feeded. THen this will really help, but you can get better stuff against AP carries.
Will of the Ancients - You're probably going to be playing with some other AP guys. Like Cho'Gath in solo top, your support, your jungle could be Warwick etc. THen this item is really great if noone else gets it. If someone already got, dont bother buying it, just sell the revolver when you need the last space.
Abyssal Scepter - This is a really good item against AP guys that are doing good. But it does not have a nice active like Zhonya's Hourglass. This item you should only get if you have problems with the enemy AP carry. It does also lower the magic resistance of closeby enemys, so that does also help.
This is not the only things you can buy as situational items, there are a lot more. I will post them as I come to use them or hear about them.
