Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Hi guys, this is my second guide, once again if you have any criticisms feel free to post them in the comment section, any help is appreciated.
Ghost- The best summoner skill in my opinion, no champion is complete without this. It is so versatile allowing you to position yourself better, chase, or escape, all often occurring in one usage. Plus you run super fast with bear form spam and Ghost
Smite- Absolutely required for competitive jungling,it serves many purposes throughout the game. At the beginning it helps you down golem fast, it can be used while fighting dragon/baron to secure the kill, and it can be used in lane to push back a wave quickly.
Standard Tank Jungle Masteries. Reduced minion damage, and longer neutral buff duration being key.
There is room for leniency here, you may change out dodge runes for mp5, or red marks, its just what I run with and I find to be pretty effective. The CDR is key on Udyr as you will always be needing to spam your stances for maximum effectiveness. The health quints are necessary for effective jungling as well.
Phoenix Stance- Very good AoE damage spell, thats like having a sunfire cape in team fights. Allows you to jungle with ease, so we max this first.
Turtle Stance- One of my favorite Udyr skills, this allows you to absorb tons of punishment for your team, and gives you some nifty lifesteal in lane.
Bear Stance - Awesome stun, combined with a mini ghost, chase-escape mechanism. Make sure to stun people who channel their ults, like Galio/Kat, and cylce through the enemies stunning them in turn, while spamming through your other stances.
Tiger Stance- Pretty useless as a tanking Udyr, don't even bother using this as part of your rotation.
Fortitude Potion- Now most people don't like to get this, because it is not material enough (you can get cloth armor if you want), but I prefer this method to others. It gives you a huge health/dmg boost in the jungle, so you can clear it faster, and its great for ganks while it is still up.
Catalyst- Gives a large health/mana boost so you can spam through your stances, and take some punishment, as well as a nice boost upon leveling up.
Mercury Treads- Great item, good MR and less CC, which is your bane.
Banshee's Veil - Now its time to upgrade your Catalyst into a Veil, which will stop even more CC, and let you destroy the enemy with ease. Will make enemy casters a pushover, they wont be able to damage you at all through veil/turtle stance.
Randuin's Omen- Lower CDs for you stance spam, and if physicals attack you, they are gonna pay with a slow, as well as a decent health boost. The active is just the icing on the cake. Pop this in team fights, and watch your enemies crumble before you.
Elixirs- Most people neglect these secret weapons, but when used they are a massive damage/health boost that can really turn the tides of a team fight. Although they are more necessary on a carry, they are still good assets.
Trinity Force- Good damage boost, your stance changing procs the sheen effect, which is nice, and provides yet another good health boost.
Madred's Bloodrazor- If the enemies have tons of HP, you attack fairly fast with your passive so this is another option, gives some decent armor, and great damage. Will also let you down baron/dragon very fast.
Guardian Angel- if you find yourself getting focused down too quickly in team fights, this can really help you by providing some strong resistances, and a nifty rez.
One thing to note with this build is - You are not a main tank. You should not go into a fight expecting to be the only tank. You are a solid off tank who can dish out some solid dps in fights, and utilize your stun very effectively.
Jungling - Start at blue golem, pop one health potion just as it damages you, and spam R. Move to wolves camp, then wraiths, and red lizard, then golems. You will hit lvl 4 after this assuming no problems. Now get bear stance and attempt to gank a lane. Make sure you clarify to your allies that if they are going to push a lane, you cant gank. Around level 6 you can attempt a Dragon, but be careful and make sure your team calls mias. If you pull the Dragon out a little bit, you can escape easier if they try to come. Dropping a ward after your first trip back and placing at Dragon is an easy way to get map control as well. After about lvl 10 you should start to team fight, don't be a noob Udyr and jungle the whole game, that's not what you are supposed to do.
Before entering a fight spam your Turtle Stance and eat as much damage as you can, while shifting between that and bear form you will close on the quickly and stun someone, allowing your team to enter the fray and secure an easy kill.
*** Make sure to cycle between your turtle, phoenix, and bear stance constantly, or you will get destroyed. ***
Make sure to stun channeled ults.
Now go out and crush your enemies through superior jungling, ganking, and teamfighting. Enjoi~~
