Threats to Nunu with this build
|Rengar||Rengar is a pretty good match up for nunu. He's almost entirely auto attack based and he's immobile without his ultimate so nunu can beat him in duels and take over his jungle. After level 6 put a strong focus in deep warding to find rengar when he is looking to ult somewhere.|
|Vi||Vi is a really easy match up for Nunu. She's not very strong in duels and she's entirely physical damage so your snowballs + armor from quill coat will make duels go heavily in your favor. Counter jungle Vi as much as possible and use your snowball + ultimate on her in team fights when she dives in and allow your team to kill her.|
When to pick Nunu
(What to pick Nunu with)
Nunu is a really strong pick when you have an ADC who scales well with attack speed and has high range (preferably Tristana, Caitlyn, Jinx or Kog'Maw). Mid range ADC's that are auto attack reliant like Lucian and Graves aren't bad with Nunu, but ADC's that are spell reliant like Corki and Ezreal don't benefit as much from Blood Boil. If you have other champions on your team that scale with attack speed such as Yasuo, Tryndamere, Jax, etc., then Nunu is even better.
It's a lot better to pick Nunu with strong laners like Syndra or Renekton so they can back you up when you invade and win lane on their own because Nunu's ganks aren't really that good. Nunu is also very good in siege/poke comps because he can buff your ADC to kill turrets faster and Absolute Zero is really good for zoning/peeling.
(What to pick Nunu against)
Nunu also works well against the champions that he synergizes with. Nunu has 2 attack speed debuffs so he can really cripple auto attack based champions such as Jax, Tryndamere, Kayle, or any other low range auto attack based champion.
Pros & Cons
+ Map control|
+ Vision control
+ Counter jungling
+ Objective Control
+ Protects/buffs carries
+ Very easy to play
- Doesn't scale well|
- Can't carry / Isn't particularly good in solo queue
Nunu doesn't scale very well with items so the best way to build him is tanky with some CDR and auras.
Start with a Hunter's Machete and a Stealth Ward. Nunu doesn't need the extra sustain from 2 health pots so the early ward is helpful for tracking the enemy jungler. Because you're starting with a ward, you can start with a Sweeping Lens as well.
|Poacher's Knife - Juggernaut||
After that, finish up Poacher's Knife - Juggernaut and get Ninja Tabi, depending on what you need. Then you can work on Locket of the Iron Solari if your support isn't getting it and then transition into Randuin's Omen or Frozen Heart. If the enemy team is mostly physical damage, get items such as Ninja Tabi, Randuin's Omen, Frozen Heart and Thornmail. If they're mostly magic damage, get items such as Locket of the Iron Solari and Banshee's Veil.
How to play Nunu
The goal of Nunu is to be as annoying as possible. Your main focus should be warding the enemy jungle and counter jungling the enemy. Nunu is an exceptionally good ganker, but he's really good at setting the enemy jungler behind and keep him from helping his lanes. Because of this, Nunu works best with lanes that can win on their own without jungle interference so that they can take advantage of the fact that the enemy jungler won't have much pressure. If your lanes are weak and need help, then you'll have to waste a lot of time doing weak ganks and allowing the other jungler to outscale you.
Nunu doesn't scale very well with money so farming isn't that important for you. If you can get the other jungler behind it's worth it even if you also sets you behind because Nunu is more useful on a low budget than most other junglers. Buy an early Poacher's Knife, Boots of Speed, and Sightstone and get as many wards out as possible. Tower diving is pretty easy as Nunu during the mid game because he can tank the tower for a long time due to his high health and armor.
During mid and late game, look to keep 3 Stealth Wards and a Vision Ward out at all times for map control, use your Sweeping Lens on cooldown to clear out enemy vision. Nunu is really good at killing dragon and baron so look to control those as much as possible.
For team fights, keep Blood Boil on your ADC and try to keep your ADC alive while slowing their champions. Nunu doesn't do that much damage but he has amazing peel so take advantage of that. If you can get a full channel Absolute Zero off it does a ton of damage but you'll usually get interrupted so just focus on using it as a slow.
