Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
This is first of of my Short and Sweet guides to Victory, this time featuring Caitlyn, currently the champion I am playing and having the most fun with. As the title suggests, my guide is focused on being short and sweet, because I hate reading walls of text.
This build is focused on stacking damage for Cait's abilities while countering heavy tanky-dps teams.
I developed this build after reading several other builds and working them around until I found this one which works pretty well.
Greater Mark of Desolation
Armor Pen reds: a must for most physical DPS champs
Mana regen yellows: More mana regen means more peacemaker casts.
Cooldown reduction blues: More peacemaker and ace in the hole casts.
Greater Quintessence of Desolation
Armor Pen Quints: I changed to armor pen quints since I dont see the health ones as being worth it anymore since their nerf
For masteries you can do the one I posted here or go all the way down support if you desire shorter cooldown on the Summoner Abilities.
I prefer this one tho for the extra armor pen, crit damage, damage vs creeps, and a little extra mana regen to top it off.
If you want to put that extra support point in the neutral creep buff talent go ahead. With my playstyle, I don't get the buffs too often unless it's convenient.
Follow Item sequence and your golden. A couple notes:
If your creep farming early game isnt going so well, grab some boots and maybe a pickaxe before the BF sword.
Swap around the last 3 items to suit your situation(for you frequently will not be able to get the second or third one due to game length):
----Grab the frozen mallet first if your having survivability problems.
----Grab the Madreds first if the enemy team is stacking HP
----Grab the Black Cleaver first if the enemy team ISNT stacking HP
After trying out several Summ Spell combos, the best for Cait, I feel, is Flash/Ghost.
Why? While not as important early game, these two are lifesavers later game when you start being focused by enemies in teamfights. A combo of flash, Net, Trap can get you away from anyone AND even possibly bag you a kill. Ghost is always good for chasing
Other possibilities(Because everyone has a different playstyle):
1. NEVER use to start a fight, always save it for an enemy running away.
2. Start lining up a shot with in advance on invis/teleporting heroes (twitch, shaco, kass etc.). they wont be able to escape death so easily ;p
3. Try to get side duo or solo lanes, not mid. You will get many more kill opportinities with in combination with Cait's other abilities within the brush
a. place at front of or in the middle of brush patches. will help keep the brush campers out and help line up a shot if enemies step on them
b. The enemy is tower camping? make a small wall with the two traps between them and your minions at their tower. they will put themselves in harms way by going around them :)
c. a well placed trap in a river bush can prevent a gank!
d. a melee champion jumped you? place a trap on your feet and use .90 Calibur Net to get some distance
e. Pushing no where near a bush in a lane? place some traps in the middle of the lane near you. use them to your advantage if an enemy tries to gank.
f. finally, scared of being tower dove? Place 2 traps around your tower and kite the enemy between them. they will think twice before attempting it again :)
5. stand in the back, stand in the back, STAND IN THE BACK
There you have it! Nice, short, to the point.
Always the build I use with Cait (Unless i choose to go a more defensive item route) and Ive gone positive in 95% of my games with her.
Just some words for the wise to summ it all up, Cait is only as good as the tank/team that protects her in the last half of the game.
