Introduction

Welcome, to one of the finest guides dedicated to any champion. This guide will thoroughly go over how to play and build an ap/tank chogath.

Why ap/tank Cho Gath is best

First of all why is ap/tank cho better than just ap or tank cho gatha?
Ap Cho Gath- This does make his ult extremely deadly and its possible to have a cho do more than 1200 true damage on champs. His vorpral spikes are also based off of ap meaning that even chos regular attacks will be stronger. The reason this is NOT best is because with chos ult he can get tons of extra hp for free meaning that if you add a little armor and magic resist then you can still wreck people with massive amounts of damage and be nearly impossible to kill.

Tank Cho Gath- With chos extra hp all you really have to do is stack armor and magic resist to make him almost unkillable. However, This would waste the potential wrecking power of chos ult and without any ap you are bound to lose almost all 1 v 1s

Pros / Cons

pros:
    lots of health
ult does a ton of true damage
can be a good tank or mage
    great for soloing
    does well mid game
    can jungle
cons:
the bigger he gets the easier it is to hit him with skill shots
    very slow
rupture can be dodged by suspecting opponents

Masteries

These masteries are designed to make cho more tanky, improve his summoner spells, and reduce his cooldowns.

Runes

The runes are quite simple because the only thing they are for is to give cho more armor and magic resist to make him even more tanky.

Summoner Spells

Possible choices:
Ignite- great for finishing off enemies before and after you have your ult. it also prevents any supports from healing themselves very well.
Ghost- allows you to both chase down enemies and run away from them.
Flash-lets you flash over walls and helps you run away from champs. Not to helpful offensivly for cho due to his lack of speed though.
Teleport-good for when you are soloing in order to get back to the tower without letting the enemy champion damage it. However, due to Cho's passive, he doesn't really need to leave lane often.
exhaust- good for keeping enemy from running away. However you have both rupture and possibly rylais sceptor to do that.

How to Play Him

Early Game: If you are laning against a person who is squishy and cannot heal then play aggressivly. Cho can be very good at harrassing and he gains mana and hp whenever he last hits a minion meaning that he can stay laning for a while without having to go back. Once you reach lvl 6 and a person is below half health, rupture and feral scream them. as they are still trying to move ult them and if they are still alive then you can use ignite and if necessary ghost to run them down. If an enemy tries to chase you then feral scream below you to knock them up in the air while you run to safety.

Mid Game: Continue using rupture and feral scream to weaken opponents and tank attacks when in a team battle. Make sure you eat minions (or if possible, enemy champs) with your ult as much as possible in order to gain extra health.

Late Game: Use rupture to initiate team battles and then feral scream the enemy team while they are still recovering from that. try to stay at the front in order to tank attacks and rupture anyone trying to run away. Your ult should do around 800 true damage now so you should be able to 1 v 1 almost any champ (even stronger champs like trynd, if u are able to use your silence well). ALWAYS remeber your ult does true damage, meaning that it is an extremely good tank killer.

Farming

Farming is more important for cho than many other champs due to his passive (everytime he kills something he gets back mana and hp). Last hitting is pretty easy as long as you are using vorpral spikes.

Ranked Play

Personally I like to use cho to solo in ranked. In most games Cho is considered the tank of the team so you may want to build items dedicated for tanks after you get rylas or rod of ages.
