OMNOMNOMNOM you have slain an enemy! "Does Tristana taste like chicken or beef?"

Can't play any champ without stackin' AP, so this build works great for me. But vs teams that has a little to medium CC i prefer to buy Ionian Boots. Their CDR helps to use ruptures, screams and feasts more often, that helps a lot.
Thx for this guide! *vote up*

Sweet, love to hear the feedback, additionally if you missed this when reading my guide here it is again: the first build is focused toward newer players who have a harder time last hitting and so on.

Sh4kezula (2) | August 25, 2011 6:46pm
In my opinion, this is the best Cho guide. I think Cho is tanky enough with feast and rupture becomes a hard hitting ability once you finish Rod of Ages. I agree with having Rylai's Scepter because it makes finishing someone with feast extremely easy.

I love Ignite. I can't count how many times I've gotten a kill on a Tryndamere or Kayle with the DoT. Not to mention how much damage it does early game, especially to squishier champions like Anivia or Ryze. Honestly I think it's good for any champion who doesn't already have DoTs as part of their normal abilities.

This guide really helped when I was starting cho.
But I have a few question.

Don't you sometimes find your MR to be a little low? Instead of Zonya's why dont you get abyssal?
Imo rushing RoA is a better choice than getting rylais, because you get more hp/ap and mana when it is fully stacked. The earlier you get it the more you get to appreciate its passive.

Rylais is nice because of the slow but when you nuke somebody with your bite its usually to kill them so the slow isn't useful. In most cases I catch them with rupture. I find Rylais a bit redundant when you have RoA for HP/AP/MP. You should be able to tank just fine with 3.4k hp on full stacks. 3.8k hp with BV

Wouldn't Getting a Rabadon's near end game instead of rylai's or zonya's be more useful with abyssal and RoA? It gives me about 400AP. You should be getting it second to last or last item, its endgame but you need the extra dmg.

I can see where your getting at with FoN, but have you tried Abyssal + BV, with Mr/lvl glyphs you get about 190 MR. you don't have to complete BV, but just get the negatron cloak if you have no troubles tanking.

Have you tried thornmail? Its cheaper than frozen heart and it gives the same armor. though its odd, if you take out zonya's you only have 180 armor while I usually have 190. Imo i find 190 armor is enough for cho, because you can stomp the auto attackers to stop their dmg for a couple seconds.

Have you ever tried maxing spikes first then Scream? Spikes gives quiet a bit of dps and its vital in farming. Farming with cho is super important. Usually by end game I have over 200 creep kills. I get feral scream at lvl 4 just to generally prevent a successful gank. Its 40 mana cheaper than its lvl 5 version, cho is very mana dependent.

Starting with flat mana regen seals + dorans ring allow you to spam rupture quiet often in lane. You free up one summoner spell for something more useful like ghost/flash/exhaust. I find maxing rupture first is quiet good. Just hitting them with it 3-4 times puts you in a position of power in your lane. And if you hit them with rupture you can auto attack a couple times with spikes and it hurts a lot, without wasting unnecessary mana. You will notice with dorans ring and flat mana regen seals you don't have quiet enough mana regen to constantly use your combo. Hitting them with rupture is hard but with enough practice its not that hard and its quiet rewarding.

a nice guide indeed. this day I really buidling cho as a tank AP and getting nice result.

just a note: I am getting both rod of ages and fronzen heart first than Rylai's Crystal Scepter; I think that give better early benefic especially with RoA.

still nice guide.:)
1
[-]
awwsmm (28) | July 3, 2011 3:48pm
I show both because I give you the option of maxing either first, both of them maxes out knock up time and stun time. You should rank up either to personal preferences and the enemy team.

I used to have gaurdians angel as a main item in this guide...
1
[-]
deathalo44 (29) | July 3, 2011 8:33am
Personally, I like having Guardian Angel over most of other tank items, but it means Cho'gath then requires some fast regen thing like FoN. Also, I like the Abyssal Scepter and Zhonya combo, it makes you somewhat tanky w/o having to try to be :)

Also, I got a question. Why not max one of your skills first? Won't it be better? (Unless you plan a lot on combinating all the time, but then again, the CDs don't change)

Dear noob,

I am here to bestow a game altering fact on you.
Rylai's Crystal Scepter + Rupture = 75% slow.
This question was resolved on the forums awhile ago when someone was asking about Nunu and his ice blast in combination with the scepter. Later that day a Dev replied that the item slow + ability slow stack, but 2 slows from the same source do not stack.

I do not have the link on hand, but I am sure you can google it. >.>

i have to say that rylai is a waste on cho since u wont catch up to your opponent with the slow.
if u use rupture the target spends 1 second in the air and slow lasts for 0.5 secs after=waste
the stats are also good but the 0.5 sec slow on rupture and 1.5 sec slows on spikes and scream is wasted.
the only good use i see is to use feast early and then finish the target with other spells
try replacing this item with another RoA or rabadon or some other OP item

awwsmm (28) | June 3, 2011 1:54pm
Well the thing about ignite is it can be useful but honestly only a carry should take it. Unless if no one on your team has it you probably should not take it. The reason you should if no one does you should for people like mundo or tank morde. And I do think ignite is a very good spell, and you were right I was just talking about Cho'Gath
1
[-]
awwsmm (28) | June 3, 2011 1:29pm
The reason I had all those things is because mobafire is used to help people looking for guides who are normally low ELO and need the clarity and HP regen because they can't farm that well to utilize Cho'Gaths passive. Now that I see you have looked it over with a more critical eye I have made some major changes to this guide by making a second build for much more expirienced players. +1 rep to you!

really good item build (except one thing), I was really tanky and did decent dmg, I was solo lane top and clarity and teleport were really helpful. And next game I noticed it's really annoying when they are 1 pixel out of range of your Q and they escape with like 100 hp... But I guess finishing them off is damage dealers job. So to sum things up: That one thing... I built my RoA first instead of Rlyai's and It really pays off. You have more mana and it starts stacking up sooner. So maybe switch them in your item order. +1, nice build ^^

These seem solid ideas, it is just that what is down in the build is the most effect play style for me; I will gladly put some of your suggestions into my guide, except for Warmongs XD. As for all the Move speed, the reason why I do not think this is so great is because noramlly i just use Rupture to get people of my back, but boots to start can be solid im just not sure bout the quints.

[-]
axxessdenied | May 28, 2011 2:23pm
Ryali's for deathcap is a terrible idea.
This is pretty much how I've come to play Gentleman Cho'gath. I tend to get RoA asap though for the big mana boost and save clarity for when my team needs it during pushes. If the other team is dealing is out DPSing us I will drop Ryalis and go for a Warmogs and pick up a negatron cloak asap. Cho is one of the funnest champs to play. love being solo lane with him! His passive makes him be able to stay in the lane for as long as you like.

edit: My start is a bit different. I go with boots + health pots instead of a regrowth pendant (kill minions to regen health :P). I find this helps bigtime with harassing and saving your skin if you push a little too hard at the start of the game. I also use movement speed quintessence so the movement speed at the start of the game is pretty high!

Feel free to get that, another thing you can do is get aromor marks instead of Magic Pen but that is up to you. Most of the time it does not matter that much since cho is naturally pretty chuncky. If you feel you need it in the start then do it, I would only recomend it for those teams that have alot of AD damage dealers.

That will be fine, but imo not good for cho

@delma05
Really? Just that one little reason and you gotta downvote? Rylai's give Cho' everything he could want, improved slows (on rupture and from all his other abilities) tons of health and ability power. What you just said was refering to a all out mage Cho'Gath which is very sucky. I am saying that rylai's along with RoA gives Cho' about 3k hp base not mentioning feast. Together this is what makes this build so strong. The slowing and painful but extreemly difficult to kill Cho' not a Nuke low health squishy one.

That is awsome, real bummer you couldn't get the picture. Thing is I dont know how to upload it either so I would have to figure out how to put it in the build. As for your summoner spells, take them if you want to take a role of more of a mage then off tank then those are good. I like to give him really nice support tank summoners but that is to help out my team. Thanks for your vote and comment!

Just played a game using this build, (except with different shoes, i wasn't really being CC'd) and raped. 5v5 13/1/12 and they surrendered within 30 minutes or else i could have gotten a lot more.

*edit* btw, you might want to mention in your build somewhere, the stats for cho's feast are wrong there. I think the first level is right, but second is 475, and third is 700. not 550 and 800.

I've played against Cho'Gath a lot, but he is always easy for me to kill when he has max feast by using Singeds fling. I played a guy using this guide the other day and he killed me 3 times in a row. I later got back at him but i have never had to fight so hard in my life against an enemy champion. If you keep making guides like this one, ill have to quit LoL. lol jk ill just have to try harder. Nice JOb with This One. Deffinitely get a +1 in my book.

I started off trying this build and from there made my own versions. Cho's build relies heavily on how the game is going and who the opposing champs are. An AP Cho build is really the most effective build i have ever made for him, and this build is great. My biggest change is that after getting the Pendant i get Boots of Swiftness and then go for Warmogs, the health and health regen it gives is great combined with Carnivore. It just fits how i play. Anyways, Great build!

nice build, altho I dont follow this completely u did give me the idea for a starting build.
I would agree with some that this is a fairly squishy build.
I tend to go:

°dorans/regrowth pendant(the pendant if the enemy team has some hard harras)
°catalyst
°boots of swiftness/ merc's vs a heavy cc team
°rylai's
°roa
°sunfire cape/force of nature/banshee's
°warmogs(/abbysal scepter/ aegis of the legion/ shurleya's )
°rabbadons deathcap

this works for me, gives him quite a hard hit / nuke and still a nice tank
runes are nice as well

just had 35 - 5 - 21 with the above build
the team was doing bad, I had mid and had 2-0
my whole team was negative, and in the teamfight we completely pulled it back and I carried the game to victory. Therefore the huge amount of kills, my carries couldnt hit hard enough so I pretty much fed em assists and saved em all the time.
And my build even is very tanky, but I solo'd the enemy's fed evelyn and karthus etc easily.

Hope all this drawed someone's attention, cba to make a build x)
cho is my main btw

Actually, it does mean he is not a good tank, with this build. Either go AP with minor resistances and be the carry, or buy only tank items and be an awesome tank.

this is a good build i like an ap cho over a straight tank, cho by nature is a tank so you really dont need to throw a lot of items on him to make him tankier, a rylias and RoA usually does the trick.

good build but the beginning is a bit slow and without some kills or a good lane partner your items will be very slow.

I have a question, should I Feast on minions as soon as possible to get bigger? Or wait for opportunities to feast on champions? I am always in a dilemma because Feast is the only major nuke Cho'Gath has and I want to get kills. At the same time I need get beefier...

Any advice? Thanks!

P.S. Can the author update this guide as see fit? Thanks. Since there have been lots of patches

Why vote -1 just because of that?
I don't understand it too but the rest of the build pwns so hard that i can forgive it easily.
And if you do not like it, why not just change the runes for yourself instead of whining about it?

I don't see why you need attack speed runes if your a tank. Tanks like Cho' Gath are usually the meat heads. They are usually support tanks.

Okay Build.

Either way, Cho' Gath can be using Attack damage or Ability power.

Arguably the best cho build out there. I love how you get tanky but do fine dmg and dont run around with no mana all the time near the edd game. I dislike your summoner spells i personaly use teleport and ghost but i reckon yours are about as good. Nice guide overall. THNX!

Good build, though i think the warmogs are a bit overkill. So it is better to rush the ruby crystal, instead of the regrowth pendant. You already have a ****ton amount of HP already with the Feast,Rylai,RoA, Runes and masteries. As for the Zhonya, it would depend, if there are alot of dps get the hourglass, if you are doing well then go for the death cap for more AP.

This is an amazing build. But I was wondering, you already have ALOT of health from your ult and rod of ages and rylais, have you ever tried replacing warmog's with something with spell vamp? It probly wont do too well but I'd imagine you'd get a good bit of health back.

Why are those summoner spells better than Ghost and Ignite/ Exhaust?

I do not have the link on hand, but I am sure you can google it. >.>

ignote not only give you extra damage but i will reduce the healing spell effectiveness not only this is important while playing against a good support it's also dissuasive when you do the skill on a champ low life
1
[-]
awwsmm (28) | September 19, 2010 8:10am
The reason I chose Rylai's crystal scepter is because of the durability. I try to make this stack tanky also and archangels is for and all out mage. It also makes your feast slow which if you bite them they usally run away. Also I think it works for vorpal spikes but im not sure, also it will slow or increase the slow on the rupture but yet again im asuming.

In my opinion if you are a good player you dont need ignite. I think that if you are smart about how you play then the extra damage is usless expecailly near the end.
