Introduction

NOTICE

This guide is currently under construction! It was published by accident before it was finished. If you have found this guide somehow, please be aware that I am still working away at putting it together and it is by no means complete.

Hey all. My name is xsmguyx, and this is my Cho'Gath guide. Cho's one of my favorite champions for a few reasons:

1. He looks like a Tyranid from Warhammer 40k and that's the army that I own. Go bugs!
2. He's extremely versatile: he can fill almost every role, take any map position, and is viable on both Summoner's Rift and Twisted Treeline (I don't play Dominion, so I can't speak to that.)
3. There are very few things as satisfying as literally eating your opponent.
4. He's got some of the best skins in the game. He's both a gentleman AND and giant, city-destroying robot. What's not to love?!

I know that there are plenty of Cho'Gath guides on here, including some really good ones, but I like Cho'Gath enough that I thought I would share with the community my way of building him. Another advantage that I hope my guide provides is a variety of different builds for Cho. Many of the guides currently on Mobafire only focus on one way of playing him. Don't get me wrong, that's great if you like to play him that way, but I believe that one of Cho'Gath's strengths is the variety of ways in which you can play him.

One last note before we get started is that if you don't like my guide, I urge you to comment on it with your reasons why before downvoting. I won't ask you not to downvote (I mean, if you think I deserve it, then please downvote me. I'm always looking for ways to improve the guide and my own personal playing). Another thing that I will ask is that if you do decide to downvote and comment, please watch the comments thread as I will make an effort to address all complaints filed therein, which may (hopefully!) lead you to revise your downvote to an upvote =).

Anyway, without further ado, let's get started. We have a lot to cover!

The Different Builds

You almost certainly noticed that I have multiple builds for Cho'Gath at the top of the guide. Here, I will provide a brief overview of each. Also, check out the colors of the titles of each build. Look for these colors later in the guide. When I start an explanation of something for a certain build, I'll color code it the same. (NOTE: For some reason, I can't seem to get the mage section to color. Later, I'll refer to the mage build with red so look for it! Sorry about the inconvenience, I'll try to get it working correctly)

The Mage

While not a true "mage", Cho'Gath has formidable abilties with decent cooldowns (especially after building CDR) and good AP scaling. You'll never be a whirlwind of magic destruction like a pure AP Carry, but if you build in this way, you will still do a formidable amount of damage as well as being able to take at least twice as much damage as any puny mage. This build is primarily designed to be used in top lane, but I've also had decent success taking this cho build mid. After a few Rupture/Feral Scream combos, enemy AP carries will step warily around you. Not to mention that you can out-sustain any one of them in-lane. But I digress. You can find more information about laning in the appropriate section.

The Tank

Cho'Gath makes a fantastic tank. He has a fantastic amount of CC, a nuke that still does a ton of damage even without building AP, a ton of natural health, plus you can hide your allies under your hit box! (Disclaimer: this usually doesn't work well but when it does, it's hilarious!). When I plan on tanking with Cho, I almost always take him into the jungle (as that's the current meta), but if you already have a jungler that's filling a different role (such as a Fiddlesticks, Tryndamere, or Elise) then you can build tank from lane (that's what the second Tank build is for, if you were wondering!).

The Support

Yes, that's right, support Cho'Gath. WAIT! Don't close the page! Hear me out! I've had pretty reasonable success with support Cho. He's not your typical support. For example, he doesn't have a heal or a shield, two elements that are generally accepted as required for a good support. But think about it. Blitzcrank doesn't have these either and he's regarded as a top-tier support? What makes Cho'Gath so different? Well, he doesn't have the pull, obviously, but it turns out that if you play Cho'Gath similarly to Blitzcrank, you can make a lean, mean bot lane. Look for more info in the "How to Support" section!
