HI MARK
lets begin and looking at cho's pros and cons

PROS
great tank/initiator if rupture is hit
strong cc
high burst even if built tank
good lane sustain with passive
scales well into late game

Cons
hard to hit cc in rupture
can struggle if his stacks are kept down
not as mobile as other champions/no gap closer

THE BUILD:
personally I feel like the rod of ages start on cho gives him a little bit of everything he needs. he already has good sustain with his passive, now adding more health, mana, and damage to his vorpal spike AA's, making him sustain even better!
after the rod, you have to look at the team, if you are laning against an ad, go randuins, the slow field from that will make your rupture even easier to hit, if you are against an ap top, go for the spirit visage. it will negate a lot of his damage and increase the amount of health you get back from your passive. if the enemy AD carry gets fed. immediatly invest in THORNMAIL(or frozen heart if its a vayne). because cho gath naturally gets so much health, resistances are even better on him, and the return damage negates a lot of the carries life steal. finish up with some combination of sunfire, warmogs, banshee's, or if your doing really well, a rylai's.

LANING PHASE:
cho gath has a fairly underrated laning phase. his damages may not be very high but with the sustain you get from your vorpal spikes, especially after you get your catalyst the protector, the sustain you will have in lane will be ridiculous. the name of the early game for cho is FARM. farm farm farm farm farm. with chose passive it rewards him extra for last hitting, so it is ok to take some harrass for minion kills. if you can poke them down enough early, your q w r burst at level 6 is surprisingly strong.
DONT save your feast. it is better to nom and get stacks then to save it for a fight and never get your stacks.

team fights. because of the delay of rupture, it becomes a difficult initiate tool to use. cho gaths main role should be to peel for the adc (or mid if the adc is doing poorly and the mid is dominating) and use your rupture to knock up whoever the enemy team uses to dive with.
