Unless the akali is realy good , if she wants to go in after level 6 you'll probably only have to silence her, and walk away.Carefull when your silence is on cd.If she comes back when your silence is up silence her and try to hit q.If both lend you should be able to kill her with r + ignite now
LeBlanc
Leblanc is one of my favorite matchups because it's a very popular champion and it's not hard to beat her as cho gath. Before 6, she might try to harass and dash in.If you time your silence well , she will be silenced during her w and won't be able to dash back for a moment. You can then try a q or auto hits on her.Leblancs NEVER build hp , so at lvl 6 if you silence her when she dashes in and lend your q , you will kill her with ignite + r.Don't forget to ignite her just before your r so you are sure you won't be confused with her passive. If you are at the same level in the game and you have been able to stack and pick your roa , she can't trade you because you deal massive damages to her and she's countered by your too high amount of hp.In teamfights much times if you are able to silence her during a dash on one of your teamates she will die and be useless most of the times
Talon
You just have to poke him pre 6 and sustain like in everymatchup , but i put him in middle difficulty because as a player of this champ i know he can get fed realy fast and has a realy realy high kill potential , even on you if he isn't scared and if you are not careful. On the other hand you can burst him very fast too and have better teamfight survivability than him.
Malzahar
This matchup is hard because a good malzahar with a blue buff will perma harass you and you probably won't be able to sustain his damages. If you try to go in he will probably disengage and later in the game your hps don't counter him at all since he has his w.I experienced the matchup and without malzahar being fed you can die in 3/4 seconds with his e w r combo. He's very hard to play against as cho gath but if he isn't good he probably won't be much a problem.(most malzahar players play him a lot)
Kassadin
He used to be very hard to kill with cho'gath once he had ult and because it's naturaly tanky against ap but now that his ult has been nerfed so hard i don't even consider this champion as a threat since he has no base damages and no huge mobility anymore
Nidalee
Easy matchup, same as leblanc , if she dashes in you silence. You outsustain her like almost all mids.If she dashes in at 6 ou silence and if you put her to mid hp you can kill her with w + r + ignite at 6
Zed
Zed can be a hard matchup depending on if he is able to dodge w with his r and that kind of things. The matchup itself is normal but be careful with "ennemy missing" because you don't want him to get fed.A zed often means a full ad composition. If you want a counterbuild to zed and ad's in general you can go to the build section.
Veigar
Very easy matchup, he has no mobility , you have your silence maxed and now his caged isn't instant. He'll probably afk farm early so you destroy him during this time.Try to harass with q w or just some w he won't regen anything whereas you will get mana back.If you hit 6 and lend your q w combo you can flash in ignite R for instakill (veigar is very squishy)
Katarina
Easy , she can't ult in teamfight unless you use all your cc on somebody else. She can't stand your lane sustain and can't aggro if she doesn't want to die.Your r will melt her because most katarinas don't rush hp.If she isn't stupid she will probably farm and cho'gath is easier for farm. After she gets some level and sees opportunities she will probably roam. You can hard push the lane and take her towers or just kickly push and follow her to cancel her kill potential and get some kills where she goes
Yasuo
Hard matchup if yasuo is good.If he rushes level 2 you should immediatly step back.He has good damages with auto resets and high mobility with dashes , and you are not tanky yet.It can go very fast since your lvl 1 isn't realy nice. The silence will be needed to help ganks(he won't dash then)or simply to lend q.He won't take hp early so you'll probably be in a good position at lvl 6.Remember to always remain careful, yasuo can surprise you and might be a tricky matchup
Syndra
She is squishy and has no mobility but her hitbox isn't big and flying champions seem harder to hit with q.Care with her lvl 6, it hasn't been nerfed ( the only q spells have). You won't probably touch her if she doesn't commit but if you lend a q at lvl 6 you can try a w flash in r ignite.Remember to check how much damages your ignite + r deals.Checking it is a safe value since they are true damages spells and you don't want to miss the occasion to kill her because you probably won't have much
Anivia
Anivia is an annoying matchup because of her passive but it remains a squishy immobile champion and your silence will hurt her a lot + it will cancel her R.Even with her passive you have a nice kill potential and ousustain her.If she plays agressive she'll be oom before she kills you(don't let het free damage you either)
Annie
Most of the times squishy , no mobility , you got a silence and an R.Everything is said : q = kill
She can't win this lane unless gank/you missplay
Swain
I don't realy know about swain but i think even with his r regen and some kiting abilities he will hardly kill you if you hit your spells. He has a short range so he will be exposed to your q ignite r which will melt him.Remember that 80% of swains rush a roa, your true damages won't melt his hp bar like other midlaners unless you are ahead. It will still do nice damages but he will be harder to put down.
Vel'Koz
Not too hard if you are good at dodging. You can poke as much as him but you will be way more tanky later in game.Your usual q w ulti ignite combo should kill him if he didn't take hp and has 3/4 hp or less (and if you are even in level)
Ahri
Awfull matchup but easy to kill if she missplays.Be very careful her roaming is better than yours because of her mobility. She can sustain in lane but it's not as high as your in early game.Stay careful she can burst you fast early on but is vulnerable to your combo if q hits(w her fast enougth so she can't dash out and you know what to do after if you are 6 or more)Like any matchup always check her hp to know if ignite r will kill her before you flash
Xerath
He has just too much range and this champ is op , never realy managed to play against it with cho'gath. He remains very vulnerable to ganks if your jungler has a dash (xin, lee sin, rek'sai are good gankers against him and give you high kill potential on him)
Vladimir
This matchup is about who sustains the most. With your ignite and r you should be able to kill him at 6 but it's not always an easy matchup since vladimir has lower cd to poke you
Brand
This matchup is pretty terrible. You'll have to kill him very fast because he can poke a lot and his passive in realy strong against an hp stacking champion like cho'gath. You can oneshot him if you manage to q like most mages but he'll melt you like only a few mages can if you don't pay attention
Fiddlesticks
Easiest matchup ever.He can't drain otherwise you can combo him and he will instantly die.Fiddle is so squishy and has a so low amount of hp that you can literaly make him disapear at level 6.
Heimerdinger
You can sustain heimer's damages if you pay attention to his towers. With some ap you'll destroy them fast with your aoe spells and you will be able to oneshot him since he has no mobility. You'll probably have to play a bit passive early game if he doesn't missplay but after you get your first item and some stacks it should be ok
Cassiopeia
Cassio is hard because of her constant dps if you are poisoned and her movespeed buff.Try to dodge poison as much as you can and silence her if you see her rushing on you.Cassio usualy build some hp but it remains a champ you can oneshot early.Cassiopeia is op but cho'gath is doing decent against her because of his sustain
Hello people,
I'm plat 4 at the moment (gold 2 with ranked reset) and I have been climbing playing cho gath mid mostly this season.I play him since season 4 in mid and i wanted to share my build and feelings because I think he's an underestimated champion and I don't understand why he isn't played in mid in my elo at least. My stats with cho mid
Laning phase
Laning phase
For your laning phase, you can play agressive early on, but the best part starts with level 6.Most midlaners won't usualy pick hp , so you always want to check how much damages your ulti does , + the ignite. At level 6 you should have around 500 true damages which is almost half your opponent hp.Cho'gath fits especialy in mid since he will outsustain midlaners , will have a good dragon presence/steal potential (your ult does more than a smite especialy in early game)which is very important with the new dragon. The important thing to remember is that early on, if you miss combo and have no cd, you are very vulnerable.Don't forget that even with your 3.5/4k hp , you are not a real tank. You're still an ap caster , you have to position yourself most of the time, but mistakes are more allowed than with squishy immobile mids such as veigar since you still have a big amount of hp.
Cho'gath is very good at siege so your teamates and you shouldn't hesitate to pressure mid in a lot of your games unless you are versus a xerath. You can see cho'gath mid a bit like a xerath with less range , but with a melee strong oneshot potential if an opponent gets close to you (he will regret his action most of the time). One of the problems is the low mobility : you are vulnerable to ganks, BUT if you are already ahead in xp at level 6 , you will sometimes be able to 1 v 2 if the jungler isn't lvl 6 yet and that you land combo. For instance if you are lvl 6 and you see a shaco ganking you pre his 6 , don't hesitate to just w ignite r and he will die.In some situations you will have to run but with experience you will know if you have to run or if you can kill 1 or both of the opponents.
Teamfights
Teamfights
You are here to kill as much people as you can , your q w should be able to deal a very high amount of damages.Try to get at least 2 people with your spells since it will disable them a long time.Your teamfight potential is insane when you have your flash and ulti up because late in the game if the opponent adc hasn't got any banshee yet and you manage to get a q on him , flash r should finish him. You're here to do a mid's job , nothing realy strange , you kill as much people as possible with higher priority on adc and ap mid.
