Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
My personal favorite build when it comes to playing Cho'gath. Its designed around being an agressive laner and ambush predator early game, and turning into an ever growing mantis shrimp of doom late game.(You must always control your lane's brush, and preferably all brush between you and the next lane also.)Your entire goal for the match is to reach 5000 hp or more, and have an atmas, then go to town on the entire map.
Grab a Regrowth pendant as normal, recall back as soon as you can afford turning it into a philospher's stone and also buying a pair of boots (Around 800 gold.). Alot of people ask me why get a Philospher's stone, and the main reason is that frankly, it gives a moderately nice combo of hp and mana regen (Not great, but there arent really any other items that offer the same sort of benefits (Most people just like to buy more mana regen per second runes, but frankly if you can't afford them at that time or simply would prefer to having other runes there instead, Philo's stone is the choice for you.) Get warmog's armor then grab leviathan (I prefer getting leviathan because it adds a little bit of a challanege to playing Cho, but if you dont want to risk it or have trouble keeping stacks, a second warmogs works just as well.) The main reason leviathan comes in rather late is simply so you'l atleast have rank 2 feast and it'l be a little easier to get those surprise kills. Naturally get Atmas as once you have about 5k hp you'l hit like truck by default in addition to cho'gaths normal benefits of having a true damage nuke, stun+slow, and cone silence. Add in Force of nature and Spirit visage(Sell your stone and buy it at some point), and it'l take a team of 5 focusing you to actually even threaten you somewhat.
Alot of people ask me why I dont get Guardian Angel, and mostly because generally, if you die as Cho late game, chances are your team abandoned you to retreat and heal, or are not nearby. With that in mind, Guardian angel basically just prolongs the time you have to wait to respawn, as its unlikely you'l escape since the small bit of health you regain + a second life is very miniscule when you consider you could instead be a hitting for more damage and nearly elminating the need to return to base to heal in almost every case.(Aside from the fact that its very rare that a team will literally just walk away after you die with guardian angel now.)
Give it a try if you want, its fairly odd, but the end game result is something that can turn a 3v5 from a likely loss to an epic win. You're playing cho'gath, the NOM GOD. You shouldnt settle for anything less then such a possibility.
If you need inspiration for playing cho'gath, just listen to this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXqrHraTNUU&feature=related
Its the job of all Cho'gath players to recreate that devouring rampage in all LoL matches.
Tldr: NOM FOR THE NOM GOD! BIOMASS FOR THE BIOMASS THRONE!
