I wish there was a read later "folder" in this website, 'cause there are so many things I want to read but at the same time....I don't know how valuable and interesting the guides are before reading them - so to put them in my faves. Anyway. I'm gonna read it later and see if you can help me stop tilting so much. T-T Sometimes, I just wish feeding players would just try not trading all the time just because. lol

Idk I have mixed feelings for this guide, climbing the rankings with this sure ( farming lp ) but improving as a player.. hmmm it's not a miss but maybe 40% , because there are alot of things you can add here that people need like zoning, warding, juking, knowing of every champion damage and ablities ( it comes with experience yes, but it must be bolded ), following team plan... it's easy to just climb up the ranks, but to really improve as a player, that's like a world harder, my advice to this guide is to find more good players and ask for their collaboration to make this guide the best one on this site! Regards :)

I clearly stated that this was not a guide about game knowledge or mechanics. It focuses on the psychological aspect of the game, which is something that holds back a lot of players in improving, and hinders their learning.

You are of course correct though, but if I would want to include everything about League of Legends, and how to be a good player, this guide would be hundreds of pages long. On top of that, I'm not an expert either on some subjects (my knowledge on wave management is very basic).

I think the best way to climb, is to go a balanced champion with your team that mixes well with the ad/ap ratio and has a strategy, whether it's kiting, strong teamfight, strong ult or sustain, or pushing potential. But the most important way to win games, is to always use lolking.net to look up your teamates history of games and see whether or not any of them are trolls. That is the absolute best strategy and it's only fair, because of how many trolls there are in the game. And by trolls i mean unskilled players as well it's obvious identifying them this way before the game even starts and they cost you 30 or 50 minutes of your life wasted. Just make sure you highlight there names on bottom left corner of the champ select screen where it says (their name) has joined the room and copy n paste it on lolking.net on the main page at the top where you can search summoner name and other things.

"Now you won't just magically climb by reading this guide" Well I've just been bamboozled

It is an awesome article, good job ! (I've been using this website for years, and just created an account now to congratulate you :p)

All of your advice about player behavior, psychology, etc. are stuff that I came to realize after many years of playing. I wish your article can help other players realize these truths quicker :) To my surprise, since i stopped being negative (I never flamed or raged at others, but I was often sarcastic, which gives the same results in the end...) and started saying "gj :)" at any good play, I have seen my winrate improve drastically !

I often try to explain those to my friends, but I'm bad at explaining stuff without sounding like a psychology smart-***, so for now I'll show them your article instead !

You can add something that helps A LOT for keeping a good personal mood and not tilt, and it is kinda related to your point on the one-trick-pony:
- When you win a game with a specific champion, keep playing this champion, to take advantage of your good feeling and confidence you got from this win.
- When you lose with a champion, play another one, to get rid of the recent bad memories of bad plays related to this champion. Then you can start playing this champ again later, when the bad plays are "forgotten".

First of all, thank you Soothing Rain for your guide on "how to improve as a player". I clicked on the guide, not that I so much need it, but even if things are going good, it is never a shame to read guides like these and to reassure yourself that the way you play is correct. There is always room for improvement even, like I said before, if it's to reassure yourself.

ELOHELL, it's funny how players use and interpret the term. I'm sure there is a truth in all of the told tales about it. Bad games / streaks can and will happen. Or not... I, myself, had experience with a positive, highly motivated weekend losing streak of 25/30 and dropped hard!
ELOHELL?... the way I see it, Yes. Ego aside, I really had terrible luck with feeders and troll picks. I kept a positive mind and see how I could have turned the game. I couldn't... Did I belonged there? "No..."

Let me explain why : If you are new to the game, your MMR is quite fresh and unsteady, sinds the game does not know how good you actually are. If you happen to start off with a losing streak, you end up among "terrible" players. Games from that moment on will be more random. (AP lee sin, TOP ADC etc...) The players you are matched with are not aligned with your actual gamestyle and knowledge. Strategies you know and apply knowing they work will not end well, because your team doesn't understand you. This can be a way to explain ELOHELL. Eventually I kept a lower profile and slowly worked my way up. Now I'm Gold I with +25 LP on a win -12 LP on a loss. ELOHELL is just a way for you to express your current situation and should not be compared with others using it.

I'm a one trick pony and it fits perfectly with Soothing Pain's explanation. It works! Doing the META way will just take you a longer and more difficult road to (lets say) Diamond. I play Sivir for as long I can remember, however it is a MUST to learn a few others as back up!! All those games you are forces to play a role you suck at, you hate, you can't do much, are all free losses. With the current champion selection you are down to 2 roles, which is way better than the "cross my fingers and hope to get a 3rd favorable pick" at worst! Learn 2 or 3 with your main ROLE and 2 or 3 as your 2nd ROLE, just to be sure. This way you reduce the amount of things to learn/master. You won't suffer the brainfarted role in the jungle or diddling on top lane... Reduce those "free losses"!! And you will win 50% of them making your MMR a bit more stable ;) (also your confidence and positive attitude)

Keep in mind, regardless of your win-rate, MMR, Division and even your current game status. There is always something to learn. Even an overfed Jax can slip his ego and give it all away. Been there, done that on both receiving and giving end. Nevertheless, a FED Sivir will not win vs FED Riven. If your team is just plain bad or gets caught out one by one, you have to break free and create another way to turn the tide. Soothing Rain's example about Dragon is perfect for when the teams are even. But incase of desperation, not being with your team can sometimes BE the right option. How wrong I may sound now. But, your team needs to trust you and listen to you. Communication is key! Talk that Corki out it. I've been fed, I've stuck to my team, it just didn't work...
A winning team only needs to follow the guidebook on "how not to throw" and they will win regardless. Give them a weird strategy, let them work hard with that guidebook and errors will occure faster.

MMR, a nice thing, but hard to understand... Playing on a fresh account and win the first 25 games followed by losing 25 games makes you end up on a higher division than if you reverse the streaks. If you lose them first and won 25 afterwards, keep in mind that those 25 were against weaker, lower MMR opponents. Winning is therefore easier. I think you get the drift.

Anyway, I just thought of these things to share to those having mixed feelings about his guide. It's great, it's true, just be sure you understand the terms correctly. Explaining with 1 example is just hard. Point of view is a thing to take in consideration. Ask questions, don't let hesitation take its own path.

Kind regards,
A, one trick, Sivir player.

Hello,
I've (re)started playing LoL few months ago and now it's my first time playing ranked games. I was looking for some builds when I found your post. I never Rage and I never blame people (At least in chat) but I found VERY interesting what is said in the guide about how to read the game and take advantage when you win your lane and how carry the whole game instead of blaming others. Good advice, I hope it will improve my performance. I recomend your guide to a friend, hope he gets gold with this guide on mind.

Thanks,
Emarzur

(Im just a bronze boy, nobody loves me. HE IS JUST A BRONZE BOY FROM A FED FAMILY )

I've heard that from multiple people! I agree though, I wish I had something like this to read when I started playing. It took me years of experience and watching other peoples' content (youtube videos mostly) to gather all the information. Thanks for the compliment!

This guide is awesome. Not that it said anything new to me, but it put in words lots of things I'm constantly trying to explain to my bronze/silver friends. This should be obligatory read for any player that just got to level 30.

I was losing a lot this season. Then I used your method of "don't lose". Suddenly, I was good at the game and didn't lose. Perfect guide

That's awesome! Good to hear dude. Hope you continue the climb! And remember, even I tilt and get frustrated at times. It's normal to slip up every once in a while. Just pick yourself up again after your game and you're good to go!
