OFC i'll update it. I haven't updated this because it's all still true. Maybe the matchups need to be retooled, but meh.

Will you be updating this guide when they rework him?

It hasn't really been updated in a while. But then, not a lot has changed with Xerath.

i like the matchup part, it give me some new tips on ones i have difficulties.

I agree your summoner spell Choice : in team Q TP can be an easy sidelane gank.
But i take ignite in solo Q to get a better trade on my lane

About your build, i'm far away your ranked level, and haven't try yet what you suggest,
but i fear a lack MRegen and early AP.
Personnally, I used to start with Doran's Ring + 2 pots when I know that I have a pick advantage,
Faerie Charm + pots & ward when matchup is fair, or hard.

Then i go : Chalice of Harmony > Needlessly Large Rod > Boots > Rabadon's Deathcap > Sorcerer's Shoes > Athene's Unholy Grail

For me, Xerath Core build is Athene's Unholy Grail - Rabadon's Deathcap - Sorcerer's Shoes- Haunting Guise

Then i pick lates choices depending on game :

- build up Haunting Guise to Liandry's Torment
- Rylai's Crystal Scepter for HP, CC and Liandry effectiveness
- Void Staff if I wanna crush ennemy with MR > 100
- Zhonya's Hourglass vs hard AD jumpers
- Morellonomicon vs hard heal/regen or not able to get blue buff

What do you think about it?

There was a time, i tried to max E 2nd, but as you said, you lose Xerath hudge pock. So i came back to W 2nd.
With some theorycraft we understand that max E 2nd just give a 270 dmg on a burst combo (And U always have the 0,8 AP ratio dmg) , U may have taken few seconds before
with a high range pock.

Used the rune setup, summoner spell choices, and skill sequencing from this guide with great success. I had always ran ignite on Xerath but running teleport encourages me to play more ranged and allows for more map presence. I changed the purchase order though. I like starting faerie charm 2 wards 4 health pots and going for Sorcerer's Shoes, Tear of the Goddess, Kage's Lucky Pick, and Needlessly Large Rod early game. Gives me mana sustain and AP. Overall I get boots, Deathcap, Seraphs, Morellonomicon, Zhonya's, and trade haunting guise for void staff late game. I had been maxing mage chains 2nd since they buffed the ap ratio on it a few patches ago but your guide opened my eyes to maxing W 2nd so thank you (: Enjoying it now.

i agree with you on the cdr with morellonomicon but i like athenes for that mana regen. is 15 ap going to help him that much with his ap ratios? i also build cdr boots and i come out with 39% cdr and i can spam my spells constantly ult comes back in about 40 and as far as i see it the more spells i get out the more damage i do.

also i go for gold per 10 runes and masteries and focus on farming so i can get my magic pen and ap items. i personally feel like he has enough damage early game to keep up with everyone else and i aim for a good mid to late game as well.

other than that i agree with your other items. please forgive me if it sounds like im dissing your guide i just don't think its my kind of play style with him. i will still test it out because i would love to improve my game play with xerath. please tell me what your personal thoughts are on my build changes

thanks so much

Might be possible vs a melee matchup, but you're slightly gimping your mid/late game. If you do that, take the AD masteries. Only take it vs melee.
