Introduction

Hello, my name is syth, and welcome to my first guide, about the WRECKING BA... err.. i mean Darius
This guide will teach you how I play Darius, you can ofcourse edit the build however you want, but this is how I like to play

Darius is a mix between an AD-carry and an offtank, but I prefer him as an offtank. This champion is brilliant at WRECKING **** AND OBLITERATING SQUISHIES, but is easily kited, or simply focused to the ground due to being overfed.

Here is my video-guide to playing the WRECKING BALL that is Darius.

- Almost no escape options.
- Needs a solo-lane, or jungle, for maximum efficiency.
- When jungling, he doesn't deliver the best ganks, due to his almost non-existent crowd-control.
- Can easily be kited, due to his long cooldown on Apprehend and almost no crowd-control.
- Will most likely be overfed and focused late-game.

This is one of the more important parts to a successfull Darius. These are the masteries that I am currently using. However, using my mastery page is only optional, but this is what I prefer to use, as it gives me sustainability, while still being able to chop off HUGE chunks of their health.

Just going over some of the things you are going to be benefitting from these masteries.
  • Summoner's Wrath : This is pretty much just a buff to your Exhaust and Ghost, giving you even more BAWS POWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
  • Weapon Expertise : This is your "**** OTHER TANKS UP-MASTERY", taking a huge DUMP on their armor.
  • Sunder : More "**** OTHER TANKS UP-MASTERY".
  • Executioner : Not much explanation should be needed for this, but this basically buffs your damage when a target is under 40% health, which means your Noxian Guillotine will become the meanest spell of the league.

Summoner Spells

Summoner Spells


Ghost: This is my preferred spell when playing Darius, I use it to catch up on fleeing enemies, or to escape ganks, with the bonus from Summoners Wrath the speed bonus is 35%

Exhaust: This is also used to catch up to enemies, so you can land your Crippling Strike slow, or used to shut down the enemy AD-carry, as the debuff lowers their attack damage.

Smite: Use this when jungling ONLY, it speeds up your jungling, makes you able to secure Baron Nashor and dragon kills, and will also net you a couple extra gold from your "Jungling Masteries".

Other viable Summoner Spells


Flash: This is an alternative to Ghost. This is not as good for chasing as Ghost is, but this may be better for escaping, seeing as you can Flash over walls.

Teleport: This spell is very good for solo-laning. Teleport allows you to get back into your lane quickly, and don't miss out on experience.

Ignite: This is a good alternative to Exhaust. This spell is mean when together with Hemorrhage, excellent at securing 'would-be-kills'.

EVERY TIME YOU TAKE THESE SPELLS I'LL HURT A KITTEN


Revive: This spell allows you to raise up from the grave, but it's worthless unless you want to troll, so just don't take it.

Promote: OMG SUPERRRRR MINIONS IN WAVESZZ!!! It's worthless, don't even consider it.

Clarity: This spell is basically worthless for Darius, and should only be considered on casters.

Ability Explanations

Ability Explanation



  • Hemorrhage: This is Darius passive. His basic attacks and damaging abilities will make enemies bleed for 12 / 15 / 18 / 21 / 24 / 27 / 30 / 33 / 36 (+0.4 per bonus attack damage) magic damage over 5 seconds. This effect stacks up to 5 times.
    Darius gains bonus movement speed when an enemy is bleeding.

  • Decimate: This ability is Darius's primary damage dealer, dealing damage to all enemies in the ring. Champions hit in the outer ring will take 50% additional damage.

  • Crippling Strike:
    Darius's next attack will deal bonus damage, and slow the enemy champions movement speed and attack for the next 2 seconds. This ability's cooldown is lowered by 1 second for every Hemorrhage stack you have on the target.

  • Apprehend (Passive): This is why Darius doesn't need the armor penetration from runes, this ability will give Darius 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 % passive armor penetration.
  • Apprehend (Active): Darius pulls enemy champions in a small range towards him.

  • Noxian Guillotine: This is the best part about Darius, the NEVER-ENDING Garen ULTIMATE, dealing insane true damage. This deals 20% more damage for every stack of Hemorrhage on the target.

Tips and Tricks for Darius's abilities.
  • Try to land your Crippling Strike right after your basic attack, as it is reset.
  • Decimate deals more damage in the axe-part of the shaft, so it is better to use it when the enemy is fleeing.
  • Decimate will also apply a stack of Hemorrhage, so if you're in a huge teamfight, try to hit as many people as possible for the extra movement speed and damage.
  • You can pull enemy champions over walls with your Apprehend
  • At 5 stacks of Hemorrhage, your Crippling Strike's cooldown is just as long as the duration, spam it.
  • Noxian Guillotine's cooldown is NOT only reset when it is a killing blow, but is also reset if the enemy champion dies within .5 seconds of usage.
  • Noxian Guillotine deals 20% more damage for each stack of Hemorrhage on the target.

Max out Decimate first, as it is your primary damage dealer, a great way to harass, and get minion kills early game. I max this out as quickly as possible together with Crippling Strike, taking only 1 point in Apprehend, and ofcourse grabbing Noxian Guillotine whenever I can.

When you get into a fight, open up with a basic attack followed by a Crippling Strike, when they're fleeing hit them with Decimate, and then pull them back with Apprehend and land another Crippling Strike before you obliterate them with Noxian Guillotine

Items
  • : When you are overfed, you will be focused, and thus why you buy these shoes; less CC = more ownage
  • : Darius lacks CC, making this item an excellent choice, because he will "not tolerate cowardice", next to the slow, it also gives you a fair amount of health and attack damage. This will also contribute to Atma's Impaler's passive.
  • : This will basically help yoiu out alot in teamfights, not only does it give you armor and an enlarged health-pool, but it also gives you a damaging aura, this will also contribute to Atma's Impaler's passive
  • : This is a really good item for Darius, not only does it give you extra armor and critical-strike chance, but it will also do insane amounts of damage, due to your health-pool.
  • : Absolutely GIGANTIC boost of health, giving you even more damage to Atma's Impaler.
  • : Not only does this item give you AD, but gives you even more AD, the less health you have. And if that wasn't enough it gives you magic resist and a shield when you drop below 30% health, so when you are being focused, take out all your wrath on those pesky carries.
Other viable items
  • : This item is pretty much a must when jungling, life-steal, AD, and a free ward. Need i say more?
  • : Also nice to have when jungling, these boots render you able to move around your jungle fast, and help you in ganks.
  • : Being focused down alot? This item will make you return from the grave... GUARDIAN ANGEL, BIATCHESSSSSSSSSSSZZZZZZAH.
  • : This is an alternative to Frozen Mallet, while this item gives you more offensive power, the slow is only a 25% chance.
  • : This badboy's passive is just plain out mean, making you able to completely OBLITERATE the enemy tanks.
  • : You may want to buy this item if you're against a heavy AP team, for more durability.
And just a little extra tip; if you have a space in your inventory, buy a Sight Ward! Yes, I'm serious. A Sight Ward, this will make you able to punish those champions just a tad to close to the edge, easy kills with Apprehend.
