About me
Riven. Riven is an attack damage caster who excels at assassinating squishy targets and leaving the fight alive. Her presence top lane usually means you can score some early kills with her high damage, mobility, and stun. Once you get her ultimate you should be able to take most targets down in a 1v1.
Start with boots or cloth armor, depending on the type of opponent you are facing. You should always opt for a Bloodthirster after your tier 2 boots because the AD and lifesteal complements her skill set so nicely. The type of boots (Ninja Tabi or Merc Treads) should depend on both your lane opponent, and the enemy team composition.
You should opt for a Guardian Angel next because your role is to wait for your tank to initiate, then go kamikaze onto their AD or AP carry. Getting a Guardian means that you can survive this job. The resistances also scale nicely with her shield. Last Whisper is for great Armor Penetration, you need to penetrate the armor to do damage. Maw of Malmortius scales well with your shield, as you dip lower the bonus on the shield gets higher. The magic resist and bonus shield is also what makes it such a nice item.
One thing I really disagree with is Warmogs on Riven, it's just disgusting. Your role is primarily to deal damage, not to absorb it. I saw a player start with Regrowth Pendant, and rush a Warmogs, then Merc Treads, and then an Atmas Impaler... Everything about that build is wrong. Atmas is a bad item for Riven because it no longer offers enough attack damage due to its not so recent nerf, and the base armor and crit chance is just pitiful. If you want to be tankier Aegis of the Legion and Randuin's Omen are solid items for Riven, but seldom do I purchase them because I know how much she can deal/take and I prefer to build damage.
