Introduction

I will improve this section and add more sections throughout the day/week with more information and better thought-processes. For now, here are some key notes on Jax top for the new season.

After a few games in preseason, I've ironed out some good ways to use Jax.

One question from people will be "where did BORTK go?" - It simply takes too long to build after TF currently, for little advantage compared to previous seasons. Building TF and then going into Tank items makes you an incredible beast. Games are becoming much shorter and escalating quicker than ever, so after TF you want to get tanky right away.

Laning Phase

Always try to last hit minions, if you can do it with auto attacks, you will be able to save your mana for trade with your lane opponents.

Whenever your skills are up, as soon your opponent steps up for a last hit on a minion, hit them with an auto attack and a W. If you are far from them, you can Q on them then W. If they have a lot of their own minions in lane close to you, you will want to use your E and walk toward your minion wave so that you dodge any minion aggro until you lose the aggro.

However, if their minion wave is minimal you can do one of two things. You can engage and if they attack back, then you can proc your E. OR, you can use your E first, before attacking them, and as soon as they try to run away, hit your E again to activate the stun early if you need to. This will allow you to get 1 or 2 more auto attacks in while they are stunned, and they most certainly will back off since they just lost a lot of health.

Be sure to always watch for your opponent's cooldowns. In any lane, it is always important to take advantage of an opponent who's spells are on cooldown. If your opponent uses their cooldowns on minions, or misses a skillshot... try to take advantage of this by counter-attacking them while their spells are on cooldown.

WARDING: When in the laning phase before the first tower is down, you want to put your ward right at the opponent's entrance to their jungle from the river. Putting it in the river bush will not usually allow you enough time as Jax to run to safety once you see the jungler or the middle roamer. With the ward in the river, close to their jungle entrance (about halfway between top and middle lanes), you will have a much better view at incoming threats.

AHEAD IN LANING PHASE: If you have managed to out-CS your opponents and maybe even have a kill or two under your belt, you should be able to 1v1 most other champions at this point as long as you have your ultimate up. Remember that ward you placed halfway into the jungle? - Well, is your opponent now scared of you and playing a little more passively and safe? - Thats GREAT. Now, when you see that jungler making his way to you up the river... check your ultimate - is it up?, good. You can now actually go ahead and meet that jungler in the middle of the river (as long as their jungler isnt already fed). You can 1v1 him with ease in most situations if you've already got some kills and items. After killing the jungler, your lane opponent is likely almost caught up to you in the river to try to gank you.. If you managed to finish the jungler with a lot of health left, you can probably also 1v1 your lane opponent here, if you truly are much farther ahead. If you are unsure you can take him, you should be able to head into your upper jungle and back into your own lane to play safe, or get to safety and go back to the shop to buy more items.

BEHIND IN LANING PHASE: Don't be afraid to buy the second Doran's Blade (or even third, but never more than 3) if you need a little extra help early game as your are losing lane. Do your best to get safe last hits on minions, and if you can still win trades with your Q/W/E then continue to do these, and back off while you are on cooldown. Also don't be afraid to let their minion wave push yours a little so that you can play more safely in the middle of the lane or closer to your own turret. If you are especially good at last hitting under your own turret, feel free to do so if it makes it easier in a tough lane.
