Diana's Abilities rely on AP to do good damage thus the use of death cap and void-staff.
Diana's champions passive is that every third auto-attack does bonus damage based on level and AP power. With high ability power this passive can hit very hard so thus by perchasing items with high attack speed and ability power you can not only hit hard with the passive you can hit often with it.
This item is not necessary but because of the large amount of ability power Diana will have by its purchase along with her melee attacks it is a suitable item for her because of its affect not to mention its own AP and magic resist stats which are equally helpful.
Using your Q effectively
Diana's Q(Crescent Strike)is an attack that requires you to aim it like many champions;However unlike most champions Diana's Q does not move in a straight path it has a arch to it. It also travels fairly slow and is easily dodge from afar. This in some ways could be debilitating, unless you know how to aim it. Simply approach the target from an angle this allows yous to place the bulk of the arc to finish point on the just on the champions backside upon seeing your approach they will attempt to back up but the arch of the Q will travel behind them before reaching they current location thus hitting them in their attempt to flee. Additionally by hitting the target with your Q you are able to ult without activating its cool-down which after reading chapter two you will see why that is very helpful.
Stringing your moves together for massive burst harass to kills
Upon receiving her ult Diana obtains a very good harass combo. First you attack minion to get two hits in so that your next attack does bonus damage. The enemy will typically use this as a chance to pick at you. You fire your Q upon seeing the opening. As the Q hits you activate your W and your ult to dive in dealing ult damage along with you bonus melee hit damage with your Passive damage bonus and finally the W's orbs connecting with the target in a final burst. If you feel the target is kill-able at this point you may use your E to slow them and continue your assault. At early levels before obtaining your death cap or any good damage boost items you may not feel you have done enough to go for the kill yet. In this case you run away using the double shield offered to u by your shield from the burst as protection from auto-attack and some possible move damage.
This build allows Diana to do insane amounts of damage; However because of the lack of magic resist, armor of health she is fairly squishy and thus must stand back and be very conservative. During team fights she is most like the first to land a kill but do to her priority in the other team to down she will mostly like be one of the first to die.
