Not really viable since gold per 5 items don't stack anymore.

So, really this guide is out of date since you are relying on synergizing the HoGs to bank some extra gold and use the early armor boost to take little damage from jungle minions and powering up your (groundslam) so now what? different buy order? obviously the first HoG is still a good choice but what else would you get while jungling? a wriggle lantern maybe?

That's just a no brainer. In reality, Stacking all those HoGs was never really viable considering you have to wait in order for them to pay themselves back, thus your basically nerfing yourself for a negligible amount of gold. Calculate all you want tanks shouldn't stack gold items, because the effects from the full items bought exponentially improve your game (in terms of tanking for your team).

Two things I recommend you do: 1) fix the images, and 2) dont cross-out stuff just put it in a different section.

still +1 for concept

Lets say you bought all 5 HoG at the same time - that wont happen, so they pay off even later, but it's easier to calculate.

Cost: 5 x (975-488) = 2.425
g/min = 5 x 6 = 30
2.435 / 30 = 81min 10s till pay off, which is 16min 22s per HoG.
So you see, it doenst speed up to the slightest. This is due to the effect that one HoG may "pay off another" but all incoming gold is put to your one and only deposit - from which you took it beforehand to pay the HoGs.

Btw., talking about gold income: it is pretty much useless to take 1 point in "plentyful bounty" but leave out "greed". Greed generates 1g/10s, while PB grants you 5g/smite. As longe as the CD of smite is higher than 50s (and it is higher under ANY circumstances) you benefit less from it.
Only positive effect is a 5s shorter CD on smite.. which wont, ever, decide a game for you.

Two mistakes in this, beside that rather good, build. So no +1 so far.

I don't think you were the pro in math either! ....

I've pulled out compared table statistics with the HoG and since the 5g/10s stacks, the results are actually parabolic and not linear as you describe it. I've taken the liberty of explaining in the following paragraph.

Consider the first HoG as non-refundable since you'll be using it for the shield anyways and consider the resell value, since you'll be reselling them anyways. So in both scenarios bellow, the first HoG is 0g to refund and subsequent HoG's are refundable at 487g.

The total payback time will then depend on your ability to purchase quickly all 5 HoG...

Scenario 1
1st HoG 0$ refund with 5g/10s
- after 5min (300s) you've generated 150g and purchase 2nd HoG at refund 487g for a total of 337g payback
- after 5min (300s) you've generated 300g and purchase 3rd HoG at refund 487g for a total of 524g payback
- after 5min (300s) you've generated 450g and purchase 4th HoG at refund 487g for a total of 561g payback
- after 5min (300s) you've generated 600g and purchase 5th HoG at refund 487g for a total of 448g payback
- after 3min (259s) you've generated 448g and you're "ROI" (Return on Investment) in 22min59sec

Scenario 2
1st HoG 0$ refund with 5g/10s
- after 5min (300s) you've generated 150g and purchase 2nd HoG at refund 487g for a total of 337g payback
- after 4min (240s) you've generated 240g and purchase 3rd HoG at refund 487g for a total of 584g payback
- after 3min (180s) you've generated 270g and purchase 4th HoG at refund 487g for a total of 801g payback
- after 3min (180s) you've generated 360g and purchase 5th HoG at refund 487g for a total of 928g payback
- after 6min (371s) you've generated 928g and you're "ROI" (Return on Investment) in 21min11sec

So in reality, the faster you get all HoG's, the faster you pay them back. And as commented in earlier posts, even if you don't fully pay them back with the passive ability, they still grant you 27 armor and 200 health each... which is not so bad after all!

Cheers!
(yes i'm a freak analyst...) :)

Just a note, in the utilities of your mastery section, I'd go 3/3 perseverance and 1/3 good hands. 3/3 Good Hands cuts 6 seconds off your respawn at lvl 18, not a whole lot. That, and Malphite rarely dies, so you get even less use out of that mastery. My two cents, but perseverance benefits you the whole game, good hands, not so much. I'm trying it out myself right now (I don't have all the armor runes, but I do have close), and I'll edit with more thoughts later.

Well this build is horrendous and awful, this must be obvious to anyone out there.

Stacking gold per 5 items makes you fairly useless; Malphite is an excellent farmer, he doesn't even need this in the first place. You have to make those shells stick around in your inventory for like 10 minutes each before they start making sense. Get something more useful: Aegis, Sunfire, Frozen heart, any magic resistance.

Quoted:
Just wanted to point something out using Azzurite's math. If it takes 16 minutes for 1 hog to pay for itself but you have 5 of them, that means 1 is payed off every 5 minutes or so. You also build one into randuins to so you actually needed that one. And by the time you have to sell a hog for a new item you should have payed it off and more.
You have not really been a pro at maths, hm ;)?

Magic penetration marks are better, I think. Furthermore Malph is pretty mana hungry. If you can't get the blue buff very often you should consider buying "Chalice of Harmony"
Despite that i love this build.
