Introduction

Hello, Lapie here. Preseason has rolled around and for a mid main like myself, this is a very hectic and also fun time. Todays guide will be on Ekko. I have a love for Ekko, I started playing him and noticed he has some decent mechanics to him, I started liking him and kept playing him. Every day I got better and learned new tricks with him, now I'm level 7. This could be your story aswell, lucky for you I have made this guide.

Runes

Runes are basic, you want your armor seals, magic resist glyphs, magic pen marks, and your AP quints. As stated in the tooltip a movement speed Quint could be useful since his passive slow has been removed, that comes down to personality and finding what fits for you. All in all, these are the basic runes.

(Secret tip, take a 1% crit chance mark, it's troll when it procs)

Masteries

Masteries are pretty simple on Ekko. You want your thunderlords which procs perfectly with your passive for high burst. I like to take bandit over dangerous game only because my philosophy is, if I can get ahead in lane, I'll stay ahead. For example with Ekko it's not hard to E and poke your lane without taking much punishment in return, well bandit gives me 10 gold everytime I do that. So randomly poking my laner in between cs can result in an extra 200 gold on my first back, which could be the difference between a sheen, or a sapphire crystal and old boots.
As for ferocity, they removed Opressor so on that line it really doesn't matter what you take, bounty hunter is a very good choice.

Items

The items are pretty basic, but with Ekko items are power beyond power, so it's situational every game on how you will build. My item builds are just a guideline to give you an idea, a must buy is lich bane however, the proc from lich bane is way too valuable late game to pass up. Also Zhonyas is a very good item and you can synergize nice combos with use of Zhonyas. (Psst, W+Zhonya+Ult)

Tips and Tricks

The best tip I can give you is to play lots of games with Ekko.

As for tricks, I got a few up my sleeve. As I mentionted above, there is the W+Zhonya, then ult combo. This combo is nice because if you set a W under you, then Zhonyas it will still stun anybody in the W then right after zhonyas ends you ult, as it should be just about under you. This combo can deal massive damage or even save you in certain situations. Use that combo sparingly also as with new changes to Ekko ult, you can basically heal to full hp if you take a lot of damage before you ult, so the time it takes for the W+Zhonya ult to take, you won't get ur max heal. I believe the ratios are 3% for each 1% hp lost.

Other then that there aren't really many "tricks" to Ekko, his E can dash over almost all walls. Also, when recalling, set a W under you right before u recall, this is a nice little trick to give you a slight shield for around half your recall. This is also useful for those people who like to look at shop while recalling, this can save and even secure a kill for you without you even knowing it.

Farming

Farming is quite simple on Ekko, you just have to line up your passive right especially in late game waveclear. Early game csing is basically the same as any champion, except when you throw random Qs for poke. Get used to using his passive and it's quite easy. Late game his Q+passive makes for pretty good waveclear.
