NOTICE

Sorry for the long time-no update. I hate to inform you all that this build is nowhere near finished, and it may be a while before I release the end results. Until then, I have updated my builds with items that I believe to be the most all-around builds for all situations. I will add small chunks of info as often as I can until this build is complete. If you have any comments or concerns, please feel free to comment!

Welcome!

Hello fellow summoners, and welcome to my Taric build! Please take the time to read this build and understand why I choose what I did, but remember that these are just my suggestions on how to play Taric, not the only and absolute way to play him. This guide will probably get long and boring, but it's important info all the same

Taric, the gem knight

Taric is, in my opinion, one of the most versatile champions in League of Legends. His Gemcraft, Shatter, and Radiance all allow him to play top or jungle. He is a natural support, and playing him AP can yield impressive results. Here is a breakdown of his spells:

Gemcraft (Passive)
Taric's autoattacks replenish his mana for 7.5% of the damage dealt.

Taric's passive is one reason why he is a decent top and mid. He gets a lot of sustain from this and Imbue.

Imbue (Q)
Taric channels earthen energy to heal his target ally. As the magic flows through them he is healed for the same amount. If Taric heals only himself, the heal will be 40% more effective. His autoattacks on champions decrease this spell's cooldown by 3 seconds each or by 1 second if hitting non-champions.
Heal: 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 (+ 60% AP)
Self Heal: 84 / 140 / 196 / 252 / 308 (+ 84% AP)

Taric's main support spell, Imbue makes Taric have crazy sustain in any lane he goes in. Be careful when supporting though, as hitting minions pushes the lane.

Shatter (W)
Passive: Taric hardens crystals around him, providing a permanent armor bonus to himself and nearby allies. Taric's armor is increased by an amount equal to the aura's bonus. Both of these bonuses stack with each other.
Bonus Armor: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30
Aura Diameter: 1000
Active: Taric shatters the crystals surrounding him, dealing magic damage to nearby enemies and decreasing their armor for 4 seconds. His own passive armor bonus is not in effect during the cooldown.
Magic Damage: 60 / 105 / 150 / 195 / 240 (+ 60% AP)
Armor Reduction: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30
Diameter: 400

Taric's main AD spell, it gives him defense in the jungle and some armor reduction when top.

Dazzle (E)
Taric emits a brilliant ball of prismatic light at a target enemy, dealing magic damage (lower damage the farther the target is), and stunning them for 1.5 seconds.
Minimum Magic Damage: 40 / 70 / 100 / 130 / 160 (+ 40% AP) Maximum Magic Damage: 80 / 140 / 200 / 260 / 320 (+ 80% AP)

Not much to explain here. A very useful spell that can serve nearly any purpose.

Radiance (ultimate)
Taric slams the ground, dealing magic damage to nearby enemies. Taric gains attack damage and ability power and receives an aura that grants nearby allies half of the bonuses.
Magic Damage: 150 / 250 / 350 (+ 70% AP)
Attack Damage and Ability Power Self Bonus: 30 / 50 / 70
Magic Damage including Bonus: 171 / 285 / 399 (+ 70% AP)
Diameter: 400
Aura Diameter: 1000

This spell should be used as early on in a fight as possible, no matter what role you're playing as. The bonuses it gives you are actually pretty good, plus it gives them to your allies.

AD Bruiser: items, runes, and masteries

Believe it or not, but Taric can actually play as a Bruiser. He is naturally tanky and has decent damage. Knowing how to build him as such can be tricky, but here is what I've worked out so far:

START: Doran's Blade

You begin with a doran's blade because Taric doesn't have high base damage at low levels. The health is decent, and now hitting minions gives you health and mana! Already you can out-sustain half of the common top players.
Alternate items: Boots, Health Potionx3
only pick these if you know you're going to be harassed a lot. Any sort of range will destroy you in lane, so hopefully you pick your champions smart and only pick Taric if you know who their top is.

Early-Mid game: Doran's Blade, mercury treads, Phage, The Brutalizer, Vampiric Scepter, Hexdrinker, Avarice Blade

Mercury treads: due to your natural armor, all you need is some magic resist. the tenacity is a nice side effect.
Phage: A nice early game item, with the slow effect being a nearly guaranteed kill.
The Brutalizer: If you are doing well, they will want to get armor. With your Shatter and this, it won't even be fair.
Vampiric Scepter: Doran;s Blade's healing effects won't be doing much by this point, and relying only on your Imbue won't work.
Hexdrinker: A useful item for saving your life and just some higher defense.
Avarice Blade: Get it early for the 2/10 gold effect. Get it early if you want to get an Infinity Edge or Warmog's Armor.
